Lots of people have talked about how strong these generators are under normal circumstances, and several of us have commented about the Army testing method to determine the limits of power output. Well, I found a picture, courtesy of GL that explains it much better, and more definitively than any of what we might say. It is a dataplate attached to a MEP 30 KW generator that can be configured to run 110/208 3 phase or 240/416 3 phase

In case you cannot read it:
__KW_______Elevation________Temp
_25/30_______5000 ft_________107 F
_25/30_______6000 ft_________103 F
_22.5/27_____8000 ft__________95 F

For anyone reading this keep in mind that by comparison commercial standby generators (not to be confused with those that are sold in big box stores) are rated using ISO 3046 ISO 5828 (along with others) which state:

The rating applies to an average 70% load over 24 hours with a maximum of 200 hours per year of operation not over 25 hours of which are at 100% rated load, with no provision for overload, generally this is at 86 degrees F and under 1,000 feet altitude, typically derated at 1-2% for every degree over this, altitude derating varies more depending on fuel type and if the engine is turbocharged . (of course some of the better brands may exceed these ratings, for example Cummins Onan rates all of their standby units at 80% load over 24 hours)

by comparison the military rating allows for 100% load 24x7x the service life of the unit, and generally allows 110% load for 1 out of 10 hours of operation.
