I've found the procedure in the TM.

How difficult is this job in real life? I'm talking about the baby disc brake on the rear drive shaft.
I've been under the truck a hundred times, staring up at this thing. It looks like it would be a PITA. Am I wrong?

The way I did it was to mark the outline of the U-joint yoke in place on the disk. Unbolted and out comes the disk / rotor. Over to the plasma table and cut and save the center. Touch up on the grinder and back in...Done and DONE. It is a centering spacer now for alignment to the U-joint and differential input yoke

Note there is a centering hub on the yoke... so you can't just remove it. Changing the diff yoke PITA or fine a U-joint that mates up. Somebody smarter than me probably has the numbers to "get er done"

I think I covered this a while back. Try and find and post. All the other bits just saw off.

Extra parts like tonsils, CAMO

Here a couple of picture to think about....

That's a lot of work to change the pads.

I wasn't changing pad. I got the image he wanted to ditch the old school emergency brake crap? (cant believe...yes I could, he doesnt have the up-grade E brake system. Maybe I figured wrong... first time this week. My bad.

I note: that just pulling the old disk rotor is a problematic. It is built to center the U-joint to the diff yoke. A0's maybe A1's.

I on my rig...didn't want to screw with hunting down a differential input yoke or U-joint. AND to add, disk it gets in the way for a new fuel tank.

Quick, perfect form and function for my rig and that no yoke LOL.

Something are easier with fire, CAMO

I know. I didn’t think there were any hmmwv left that use the old setup.
my comment was just kidding. I don’t use smiley faces very often.
AJAX, are your rear brake calipers really the same as the fronts? If so, the upgrade is a good idea. Then do what Milcommoguy did to the old parts.

I recently read somewhere here that the newer style parking brake parts were difficult to find? If this isn't true then I'll happily upgrade to the new setup.

Yeah, our truck is probably late 80's. It came with the old style mirror mounts and the 8-bolt wheels with bias-ply tires and 7k axles. It was very un-upgraded. The only upgrade it received, was a 6.5L engine in 2002.

The newest style calipers (Wilwood) are only on serial numbers 300,000 and up REV models. Your upgrade would be to the bigger rear calipers that have the e-brake built into them, just like the H1. There are military kits floating around that have all the parts in it.

Its not as bad as it looks. I had a 1143 awhile back that had seen not one MWO done on it including the park brake. I ordered the disc and pads on epay. Go ahead and spray the parts with some pb blaster and start moving it around to get it broken loose. Remove the parts and then renistall, clean with brake cleaner. Worst part is the spring retainers are a little finicky.
