Possible IP solenoid “sticky”?

M998 6.2 been running great no issues. New fuel filter, fuel pump, new injectors.. fires right up with half a crank. Manual start box.

Driving yesterday I noticed when i’d take off from a dead stop i’d move forward seemingly normal then about 50 feet it would speed up.. as if the fuel supply had been restricted and suddenly were free.

I stopped and googled the subject at DQ with the kids and saw some suggest a leaking fuel line. I get the kids loaded up, fire up the truck and goose it a few times and look around for drips, nothing. So I hop in and pull out of the parking lot, get about a block down the road and the engine straight up dies. Like it had just been shut off.

I coast to a stop.. try to start the truck and it cranks over fast and no pops like its getting 0 fuel. With the key in the run position I pull the wire off the IP solenoid and put it back and can hear a strong click of the coil engaging so I know I was getting power to the pump. I crank it again, still acts like there’s no fuel.

I make a few calls and line up a tow truck to get me and give it another crank.. it fires right up.

I drive the 10 minutes home, no problem.

Today it fires right up and i let it idle.. about 10 minutes in I can hear it kind of rurrrr rurrrr rurrrr like its fuel supply is getting squeezed. I go outside and goose it a few times, it behaves like its got getting enough fuel and then shuts off.

Again I check the solenoid wire with the key in “run” and hear the clicks. I pop the line off the fuel filter that feeds the IP and it blasts fuel out. With the IP wire off I crank the engine to make sure its pumping fuel.. it is.

I put the fuel line back on, reconnect the solenoid wire.. smack the top of the IP cover with the side of my Leatherman tool.. give it another crank.. nothing.. give it another crank and pop pop VROOM and starts right up.

I drove it around the block a dozen times, took it to the car wash left it idle.. drove it around the block a dozen more times.. let it get nice and warm (in case it was a thermal issue) acts completely normal.

So the best I can guess is maybe the solenoid is sticky? Perhaps was not fully actuating the fuel valve or was getting weak? Is that even a thing?

I have a new solenoid coming. I figure if that’s not a problem now it will be eventually. Anything in particular ai should look for when I get the cover off?
