"Lost the tailgate in the pile, we'll just pull it out". That was one stuck dumptruck in a world of muuuddd. Lucky that they had access to the excavator. Thanks for posting that!

Might have dislodged the opening mechanism to lose the gate. I've bent shackles using a chain looped through them like that. Rigging not optimal.

I was loaded with 10 ton of rip rap. Hit a bad seep! water was gushing out of the ground 10'-20' from the truck when I went in. No bottom to the hole. Went to lunch after trying to get it out multiple times and it had sunk to the bottom of the dump bed. Back tires were a couple of inches from being out of site. Dumped the rock out and broke 3 chains. Went to a friends and borrowed a barge rope and jerked it out on the second try with a little 9000# front wheel assist tractor. Now I own a 150,000# custom made snatch rope.
