Repair tach?

The tach has been making some screech nosies, and pegging out. Took it out of the dash to fix it, but wondering how to take it apart. Do I have to cut the band around the glass, and if so, how do I put it back together? I can turn the insert and make the tack work, but it doesn't turn easy.

Squirt some penetrant oil in the back where the cable goes before you take it apart.

I thought about doing just that Gimpy, afraid the fix might not last. Would like to get inside and check it out.

Tachs are cheap. I have a spare or 2 in the basement somewhere. I'll see if I can get one to you.

typically only $40 new.. Be sure that is not the cable making the noise... put some graphite lube on the inner cable.. ACE
