Blown Head Gasket Recovery (no longer) - Massive Engine Failure (!)

As a fleet operator with nearly 2 million hours of diesel engine operating experience, just drive your engines. You want to warm them up quickly.

    Project Wild Weasel M1009

If you want a black undercoating check out Daubert Nox-Rust 121B. I believe it's the same product GM is using to coat the frames on some of their heavy duty trucks. It's well priced. It can be applied over existing coatings and rust. https://petroleumservicecompany.com/nox-rust-x-121-black/

    Gasket makers

Use anaerobics anywhere you can. Silicone is very permeable and can seep oil. Silicone glues the parts together which makes disassembly difficult. Silicone is more difficult to clean up. Silicone contaminates surfaces for painting. Silicone makes chunks that can clog things up. Anaerobics are...

Blown Head Gasket Recovery (no longer) - Massive Engine Failure (!)

I don't see any indication of a blown head gasket. When they do fail on these engines it's at the rear water passage so that should be cylinders 7 and 8 that are affected. With multiple valve kisses and the brutal amount of damage, this has to have been an overspeed event.

I guess auto trannies mostly slip, they don't drop out of gear suddenly. A transfer case might. I have had a transfer case with worn shift forks that would drop into neutral. I don't know if that's possible under load or not.

Blown Head Gasket Recovery (no longer) - Massive Engine Failure (!)

With multiple pistons hitting valves this is looking like an overspeed event. Have you had a look at the transmission? It's possible something broke in the transmission which caused the engine to unload suddenly.

Blown Head Gasket Recovery (no longer) - Massive Engine Failure (!)

And where would a split lockwasher come from? Nobody uses those things, right?... Right? Do notice how clean and wet the failed cylinders head surface is. The combustion side of these engines should be sooty and dry. This indicates that the failure was initiated by a combustion side problem.

Blown Head Gasket Recovery (no longer) - Massive Engine Failure (!)

The piston skirt failure happened first. The pistons cocked in the bore and made several impacts with the head. A rod failure would have left the piston in one position. A stuck injector can cause a piston failure like this. I suggest pulling the other pistons to check for signs of overheating...

Who makes the best aftermarket Air conditioner for M 1008?

If you can find the 96+ 6.5 civy trucks accessory rack it is set up for dual alternators and AC. There is one plate that will be missing. You can cut this from 1/4 inch plate and stack up some washers or buy one from these guys...

Blown Head Gasket Recovery (no longer) - Massive Engine Failure (!)

It's locked up solid? This sounds like a main web failure. That shouldn't happen on an Optimizer. The Optimizer engines will still crack heads and they still blow head gaskets but they don't crack the blocks like the used to.

Overthinking things again - Grease - Wheel bearings

I always laugh when grease labels itself as "high temp". It's true, high temp greases make bearings run hotter because they have thicker base oils and more thickener. When I have problem bearings that run hot I switch to low temp greases and the bearings run cooler.

Overthinking things again - Grease - Wheel bearings

Moly is for sliding and journal bearings. It works ok in roller bearings but must not be used in ball bearings.

    CUCV Alternator Rebuld Kits

Check Buchanan Auto Electric in Oakland CA. I bought kits from them. It's a Delco 27 SI. Tell them it is 12v isolated ground. However, if the isolated ground parts are not available but parts for the standard alternator. The only piece that will be missing is the plastic bushing on the ground...

    6.5 Tick When Warm 1151A1 2007

I'm here to watch. Bought an eBay engine with a tick that comes and goes. I pulled all lifters and cleaned and disassembled. Tick is the same. Engine runs perfectly but there is a cracked head that makes some bubbles. The tick is exactly 1/2 crank speed. Use your cellphone's slow mo video...

Overthinking things again - Grease - Wheel bearings

The best grease for wheel bearings is polyurea based. It has a higher oil to thickener ratio so you get more of the stuff that actually lubricates. You may or may not want EP additives for wheel bearings but polyurea is available with them. You don't want EP for ball bearings. The only auto...
