My intent was to keep the pintle hitch and simply add a 2” receiver like this example (which I saw posted here by another member) >>

However, I’m stuck here >>

The 2” receiver is made with 1/2” steel plate. With that in place, the nut no longer goes all the way on the threaded shaft on the pintle hitch.
Am I doing something wrong? Or, is there something I can do differently to securely install the pintle hitch?
