Comical stenciling on 803 GOV planet today

why have I not seen a reply yet saying we SHOULD add fuel there to prevent the water from rusting out the engine? (Despite water being heavier than fuel and having water content itself) 🤷‍♂️😂

Warning, if you are on the Florida West Coast from Napels to St. Joe, do not run your Generators until after storm surge recinds

As I’m down here doing generator work (it seems I’ve had family I’ve hauled generators to in every major storm since 2017) here is another reason: Even though we are day+2 here with the water receding, I’m getting reports of some of the canals connected to the river are now rising again to...

    Integrated Battery Chargers

Id 2nd the Noco products, out of all chargers / maintainers ive used on automotive / forklifts / etc... this would be the only brand where I dont have any failures yet out of ~25 or so various chargers / jump packs, etc... Anybody running Noco gear I am curious if anybody has ever had a fault...

Yay I get to track down 24v gremlins - gauge issues, crank issues, K1 control, OP switch

Alternator exciter - bad pin Coolant gauge - bad pin coolant + oil + whatever else - bad ground. potential between the ground lug inside the cabinet and slave port is a whopping 4.5 volts. Par for a '94 Libby that has evidence of many field repairs to the harness I suppose.

Yay I get to track down 24v gremlins - gauge issues, crank issues, K1 control, OP switch

Alright. its been a while but my initial hunch to 'put the batteries in and retest' was correct. Putting the batteries inside the gen instead of using my mobile 24v jump cart solved the starting issues. The generator overloaded after about 25 minutes at 10kw. Joy S8 time. I forgot to grab...

Yay I get to track down 24v gremlins - gauge issues, crank issues, K1 control, OP switch

I knew you would pick up on that. I just need to find my box of fuseholders because I know I still have a few.

Yay I get to track down 24v gremlins - gauge issues, crank issues, K1 control, OP switch

Thanks for the direction. So I havent gotten far however I have made some progress. Relays all test good using a halogen lamp. Also brought a different brand out of a known runner. Chasing down the items Guyfang suggested I get some interesting results. Volt drop is more than I would expect...

Yay I get to track down 24v gremlins - gauge issues, crank issues, K1 control, OP switch

Ive been working on 1 particular unit for a little bit now after taking care of the engine side of things on an 803a. I can hear everybody now, yes I am running through the -24 and related docs. I normally wouldnt post if it wasnt some weird compound issue, or maybe my brain lacking direction /...

    MEP-831A High oil pressure

These generators dont have any form of oil pressure relief. The relief is only an orifice. They are known to be almost 200psi on cold startup. Red arrow is this orifice. Other picture gives you an idea of the size compared to the engine. I think this was an L48, not an L70, but lots of same...

MEP-802/803/831 Generator Control & Parameter Monitor by WIFI Demo

Kurt has really done a great job on these. While I havent seen the latest few revisions I know they get my seal of approval. Soon as I finish these projects I have and am caught up I will put one in my 802 and 803.

Picking up an MEP-803A from an Army depot

I take it as a learning experience. Some people look at it and say I got royally screwed. At the end of the day I am wiser and some lessons are expensive. No sense getting mad over it. My friend which was with me wont let it go and It bothers him deeply, but at the end of the day I still will...

Picking up an MEP-803A from an Army depot

If you intend to drive to PA do not under any circumstances stop on the side of the road, even to look at your GPS. I got nailed with $1600 in tickets for being commercial, no medical card, no DOT number, put OOS for 12 hours and my ticket was 8' long. He even posted a guy to watch the parking...

    MEP-803a auto frequency controller!

Unit is tucked away 12' off the ground on some pallet racking, project is kinda low on the list. I will say steel double wall tank / base and steel enclosure makes this unit HEAVY.

    MEP-802a just reached 17,000 hours

jamawieb, could you acquire and share the details for what he does for maintenance on this machine? Particularly OCI (does he stick with the military LO or some other interval?), brand/weight of oil, and if there is any fuel treatment going on. Whatever he is doing he is obviously doing right...

Mep-831a Oil Pressure switches keep breaking.

I have one that failed and the failure mode was leaking out of that little allen set screw. This was a set that had some hours on it. Thought I put a bad one in to replace that one but for a reason much too long to post here. And great news about them being screwed together indeed. I may do an...

    MEP-002 rough running

Wait what? Teflon on flare? Every bit of documentation and instructions say not to do that. To my knowledge Teflon tape / pipe dope should only be used on tapered threads. Anywhere there are straight threads like flare, oring boss, banjo, etc... Teflon tape should not be used. Granted, in a...

MEP-501 Conversion & Modified Fuel System

Looks great, I assume thats an L48 instead of the L70 thats in the 831? (never dealt with the 501/531 gens)
