I had the axle housing bare about 5 years ago, that is why it looks clean. Cleaned it with phosphoric acid, painted parts of it, put a new ring and pinion, bearings, seals, kingpins, kingpin bearings / bushings and brakes on it. At the time for whatever reason I did not replace the u-joints as...
New u-joints in the Dana 60 on my project. About a month ago one seized up and made for some interesting turning from time to time. I was thankful that I had a good ball joint press to press out the old u-joints, and press in the new ones. New Spicer parts went in and it should be good to go...
Well- that isn't the best way to bring in the new year. Recover well - take care of yourself. It isn't fun to have a chunk of your time on this earth consumed by the actions of some other idiot. I know it sounds corny but hopefully you can find something you have been meaning to do to occupy...
Honestly - I don't know what makes the heavy duty more heavy duty. Below is what Crown says about their standard braded line, they don't have their new heavy duty line shown...

Rick - If my pickup was stock height I'd be running standard rubber...
Long story short there isn’t a part number for the pictured brake hose set - yet...
If you want some similar to them they are dimensionally identical to Offroad Design part #GU30011
BUT instead of the smoke clear jacket over stainless braided hose they are made with Crown’s new “heavy duty”...
I installed new brake hoses.
The old ones were a little over 6 years old. New ones are a "heavier duty" version of the Crown ones resold by Offroad Designs. Hopefully the jacket over the stainless braid on the new ones holds up a little better.
Put new tires on the clone.
The HMMWV Wrangler MT tires I had on it were old when I put them on 5 years ago, it was time for new rubber. Pitbull Rocker radials were on sale so I broke out the elbow grease and got busy dealing with 24 bolt HMMWV wheels...
The tires are a little taller and...
Over the weekend I drove my 1008 clone over the highest mountain pass on I5 (4,310’). Took it over the pass to check out if I had fixed my puking gear oil out of the breather problem. Turns out the oil had water in it. Fresh oil and a breather hose up to the engine compartment fixed it.
Got...
Case spreader $150-220
Clamshell bearing tool $330 ish
Dial type inch pound torque wrench $100-300
NOS 4.56 R&P off eBay $250
bearing and seal kit $150-200
A day or three of your life and it will be good as new!
Poly engine mount inserts installed! We’ll see how the Summit Racing house brand holds up. A pair was about $15 cheaper than the energy suspension ones. They seem identical, but grey.
Figured out that my 4 year old AC Delco mystery import oil cooler lines are leaking enough to leave a drip where I park. Time to order up some new ones.
I had an issue with DIY4X about a year ago.
I ordered up a hydraulic assist cylinder mount a few years ago and it was fantastic. Used it on my buddies 1008. Fast forward about a year ago - I order up a second one. The pic on the website was identical to the one I had recieved a few years...
Now you need something with a Ford 9" so you can bolt that onto it...
I have the one by Ruff Stuff on my pickup - At $60 I couldn't make it myself for that by the time I paid someone to use a press brake to fold it.
Rob,
Maybe start a new thread? Kinda sounds like the controller card lost it’s mind.
Worked on a friends 1008. He is the kind of person that can destroy an anvil with a cotton ball. His rig has had drivers side camber issues for a long time, most likely from an encounter with a stump. A...
The 700R4 battle continued. Bolted up a remanufactured Sonnax valve body (with updates) and took it for a drive. Now I’m happy with how it is driving. Welded up a spare tire mount, and slapped some paint on it.
Tomorrow I think I am going to put a pressure gauge on
the transmission to...
Use gravity? That is cheating! When the day comes that I do another transmission I’ll remember that trick. Hopefully this weekend I’ll actually get the transmission swapped and do some fine tuning providing I didn’t totally screw anything up.
So now you have to spill your Jedi master knowledge... How do you check endplay without touching the splines? Tractor beam? Some magical expensive tool?
