The reason TACOM continued to put out contracts for different PCB’s and EESS’s was because they couldn’t keep the failure rates down to an acceptable level, it wasn’t till the S3 development that they finally developed a box with an acceptable level of MTF. The box you have was of limited...

Engine oil at every fill up…these older IDI diesels can burn quite a bit of oil, check belt tension while hood open, grab your fan blade and see if the WP shaft is failing, check the coolant level visually through the bottle with a flashligh…

4 letters come to mind….PMCS “preventive maint checks and services” I can’t stress to folks to perform post and pre-flight checks on these trucks.

almost every customer and trucker who shows up here has a winch so bound up they are forced to pay it out electrically, the truckers are the worst as there lone battery is almost always 50%, so using all his battery power to just pay it out is a lesson in futility. what I learned many years ago...

yep, didn’t want to say anything because someone gets pissy…electric winches have a duty cycle, paying out 60ft or more of rope would leave you possibly screwed, in more than one way, I’m certain I’m wrong though, but what the heck.

a lot Of what the military does for fluids is for commonality of fluids, take the PS system, you can flush the ATF out and use PS fluid, ATF does suffer from cavitation in extreme use situations. My FMTV uses 15-W40 for transmission fluid! Yes…the Allison transmission actually uses engine oil...

these USMC trucks have had a lot of salt water immersion, as you said…if you have a leak on the core, there are others. also, there is No civilian replacement radiator for the ECV, so that option is out…remove the radiator and send it out and see if it’s even repairable, there are 3 versions of...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

the 6.2-6.5NA is more than capable off road, m998’s are 7700 GVW so the suspension is very forgiving, your m1097 is a shelter truck and has/had non-variable rate fixed springs…not ideal unless loaded to the hilt. the 3 speed is as reliable as it’s going to get, an A2 adds in the electronic run...

Personall, I’d lose the skins, the doors and truck look better with just the X-door.

Buzz killer… thats not the correct format for USAF marking on a vehicle.

oil will be black after 10min….don’t go chasing clean clear Diesel engine oil, it doesn’t exist on IDI diesel engines.
