    MEP-803a overload circuit

No, I need to call you and enlist your vast experience to locate the issue. It still generates fine until the load goes over 50% then trips. I actually had the short circuit trip last time I ran it, but may have had the legs unequally loaded when a load suddenly came online.

    MEP-803a overload circuit

Novaman, I am interested in hearing how this S8 abrasive cleaning process goes. I'm in the same boat, but do not have a spare S8 to test. I'd like to clean in place albeit very gently to see if I can better results than deoxit alone.

    MEP-803a overload circuit

I put them back as I thought this was just a pass through block/attachment point. I guess the real question is if the correct wires are matched on either side! I think that will be my next item on the list to check. Any guidance on TM sections/pages for wiring diagram? Thank you.

    MEP-803a overload circuit

Time for an update. Received shipments from my auction site orders: 1. Spare K8 2. Better multi meter with amp clamp 3. NOS Weller Solder gun (new in box, but old model which had been sitting in an estate sale). Wow, it works great! So to the generator... In previous posts, I detailed...

    MEP-803a overload circuit

Duly noted. Thanks for the UOC suggestion. I am still learning the lingo and sources for info! I'll get a good test on the resistors this coming weekend once my new meter arrives. If they pass, I should be ready for another load test before I move on to switching out the K8. Any advice on...

    MEP-803a overload circuit

Thanks jamawieb, I may have found a K8, so I will keep you in mind if that falls through.

    MEP-803a overload circuit

Ok, I took apart K1 today and cleaned the insides with deoxit. It really wasn't too bad and seemed to be making good contact. There were a few minor burns spots on the contacts, but were not charred. Here are photos: They look a lot darker in the photos than they did in person... I will also...

    MEP-803a overload circuit

I just pulled K1, and may have found the problem... Shouldn't this be a 60 Hz??? See photo of tag on K1 rated at 400 Hz. Also, here are photos of the inside... it's pretty clean. I haven't taken the Allen screws off the top yet, but am not sure I need to if this is a completely wrong part...

    MEP-803a overload circuit

I was just out there testing the burden resistors per the TM, but I can't get readings that make sense. I've read somewhere that they should really be un-soldered and tested for most accurate readings. However, the TM reads that they can be tested in place. To complicate things, I'm using an...

    MEP-803a overload circuit

Ok, today I was able to run the test procedure for K8 from the -24 TM on page 2-58 and 2-59. All testing is conducted with the voltage reconnection switch in the 120/208 3P position. There are essentially 6 tests to run in this procedure. The first 3 test operation/function of the OVERLOAD...

    MEP-803a overload circuit

Yes, my 802a would nearly kill itself trying to stay online with a huge load. I had the resistance heat (emergency heat) try to come online once while the 802 was happily running the rest of the house.

    MEP-803a overload circuit

I was able to run another load test today. After start and warm up I progressively applied a 60% load. It ran fine for 12-15 min and then tripped the overload again. I reset everything and applied 50% load and it ran fine for the remaining 1:40. During the last 30-40 min I added a large burner...

    MEP-803a overload circuit

I do have an 8' ground rod near my load test area. I also have the neutral and ground bonded at the genset as is required for a stand alone system.

    MEP-803a overload circuit

I had some time last weekend to tighten load lug connections on rear of the load center. I was finally able to run it tonight for 1.5 hours at just under 50% load. Some may enjoy a short video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XtO4TD2i10

    MEP-803a overload circuit

I ran a load test again Wed. It tripped the overload on anything over 50% (took 10-15 min), so something has improved. I was able to run 50% or less for over an hour before I had to shut down. I plan to dig deeper on cleaning and tightening connections. The load board is my next target. The lugs...

    MEP-803a overload circuit

I did a bunch of disconnect/clean/reconnect on the K1 and TB3 yesterday. I also used a can of Deoxit D5 on both rotating switches while working them back and forth. Deoxit doesn't flash off as quickly as E/C cleaner, so I've let it sit overnight to "dry out" a bit. I plan to hook up a load and...

    MEP-803a overload circuit

The switches feel smooth with positive engagement. I've sprayed them both with electrical contact cleaner. This flashes off pretty quickly and dries things out. I plan to pick up some "Deoxit" today which also has some some lubricating qualities. I do have the quad circuit fuse added. See...

    MEP-803a overload circuit

I will to unhook everything and take a look at connections on the K8. I did have a mouse nest under the transformer (since cleaned out), so I will check out the K8 to be sure there is no corrosion. I will also count wraps of wire. The -24 TM states 4 wraps. Mine appeared to have more wraps that...

    MEP-803a overload circuit

Ok I'm running the gen with S7 (battle short) flipped up. After 10-15 min the overload light still came on. Guyfang, I know this tells me something significant about where to look for the problem based on your previous messages. Please elaborate based on my conditions if you don't mind helping...
