Overthinking things again - Grease - Wheel bearings

I always laugh when grease labels itself as "high temp". It's true, high temp greases make bearings run hotter because they have thicker base oils and more thickener. When I have problem bearings that run hot I switch to low temp greases and the bearings run cooler.

Overthinking things again - Grease - Wheel bearings

Moly is for sliding and journal bearings. It works ok in roller bearings but must not be used in ball bearings.

    CUCV Alternator Rebuld Kits

Check Buchanan Auto Electric in Oakland CA. I bought kits from them. It's a Delco 27 SI. Tell them it is 12v isolated ground. However, if the isolated ground parts are not available but parts for the standard alternator. The only piece that will be missing is the plastic bushing on the ground...

    6.5 Tick When Warm 1151A1 2007

I'm here to watch. Bought an eBay engine with a tick that comes and goes. I pulled all lifters and cleaned and disassembled. Tick is the same. Engine runs perfectly but there is a cracked head that makes some bubbles. The tick is exactly 1/2 crank speed. Use your cellphone's slow mo video...

Overthinking things again - Grease - Wheel bearings

The best grease for wheel bearings is polyurea based. It has a higher oil to thickener ratio so you get more of the stuff that actually lubricates. You may or may not want EP additives for wheel bearings but polyurea is available with them. You don't want EP for ball bearings. The only auto...

M936 Rear winch shear pin options

For a shear pin to work properly it needs to clear the load and not damage the shaft or hub. Sticking straight shank pins in are certain to prevent these actions.

    CUCV Coolant Issue

Your head gasket is blown. I just went through this. When the engine is cold remove the radiator cap, start it, and watch for bubbles in the radiator. Bubbles means the head gasket is out. This is your best scenario as head gaskets are cheap. Pull the heads with the exhaust manifolds installed...

    HVO / Renewable Diesel?

Is your frequency dropping significantly below 60 hz? 57hz? What voltage regulator does the generator have? Some regulators don't have a lot of power for boosting during momentary load surges. If frequency is dropping then there isn't much you can do about this beyond soft starts and variable...

    HVO / Renewable Diesel?

This is what we got from our engine supplier: https://www.cat.com/en_US/by-industry/electric-power/Articles/White-papers/3000ekW-60hz-generator-set-diesel-hvo-test.html As for storage, we have not seen any issues. Most of our boats burn through 50% of their fuel every 3 weeks. We have a few...

    HVO / Renewable Diesel?

We have been running R99 in my tugboat fleet for over a year. There have been no troubles OTHER than float based tank level indicators. The specific gravity of the R99 fuel is much lower than diesel #2. This caused issues with a specific brand of tank level sight glasses.

Plain steel 16.5 rim other than the stock 2-piece

If you have the option, ditch the 16.5". Tires are getting scarce. Going 17 inch opens up tons of lower cost higher quality tire options.

    Persistent belt squeal continues

I will argue against warming up engines, however. Start them and drive them. Turn it off if you're not driving it. While it's not specifically a problem on the 6.2, in general there is poor lubrication for cams and valvetrain at idle. Keep this in mind if you have an old engine with flat tappets...

Aftermarket Radiator Questions- Cap with Deeper Neck

You don't have leverage against the company anymore with your vintage truck. You might be one of 10 customers in a year. They're not going to revise any part of their product to satisfy tens of customers.

    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

If anyone is looking to buy starter bolts I do strongly suggest the ARP option. OEM bolts are no longer available so you're banking on aftermarket. The ARP bolts are made from a stainless steel alloy from Carpenter called Custom 450. Stainless is usually a terrible choice for bolting, hopefully...

M936 wrecker / NH250 water pump pouring water

Under-tightened belts can also cause bearing failure. Bearings for rotating shafts and stationary housings are clearance fit in the housing. Without sufficient tension the outer races of the bearings can slip or rotate in the housing which causes the system to wear out and fail. Proper belt...

    M1008 external trans cooler

I would run it through the trans cooler first then radiator. The driver's side tank is a constant 180 degrees F as that is when the thermostat opens. There is no flow through that tank during warmup so the trans cooler will not delay the warmup of the engine. If the trans cooler is cooling the...

    Blowing Bubbles

It still has bubbles. The head shop pinned the cracks between the valves but in one location they did not install the pin under the valve seat. It's outside of the combustion chamber, it only sees exhaust pressure. The engine runs perfectly otherwise and consumes no coolant so I'm just going to...
