I was thinking about a CUCV but I;m not sure if it will do much more than my Silverado. What advantage does the CUCV have over a civilian truck. Other than diesel?

I just don't know if its worth it to buy one when I have a good truck already.

Its a 80s chevy pick up with a few military items(black outs, rifle racks, shackles and a brush guard) on them and they have low gearing. I love mine but it is basically the same thing as a civi 80s pick up.

Dear Sir,

Since you already have your Silverado, keep it.
If you can afford to keep both, Go get a CUCV too.

They are tough, shielded from EMP's (so I been told..), great gas mileage
(I get at least 20 mpg...), and they all have features that may be useful when SHTF.
Not to mention they are reliable, dependable, and strong, once you get the
the bugs worked out.
But I really like the 6.2L Diesel V8 engine in it as well.

I have a 1985 M1009 Chevy CUCV Blazer, that I am happy with, even when it breaks down.

Please let me know if you would like to know more..

Good luck,

I can afford both but still not sure if its needed. I would like to have something to carry the 30+K rounds of ammo I have in case the shtf but I think my silverado can do it too. Just not sure if I should spend the money on my silverado.

If the SHTF and you have 30K + rounds, you can get any truck you want(after the SHTF).

If your not a good mechanic, get a newer vehicle.

What year is the Silverado? Pickup wise, I like the 4.56 gears and Detroit No-Spin in the back and the fact that is has both 12 and 24 volt systems. Lack of computers is a good thing and parts are plentiful. An added bonus is I can work on it without a scantool. Mileage is reasonable below or at 50 and the road oiler can burn some funky stuff if need be.

If we have to worry about a EMP i would rather die because that isnt livin!!! Like Einstein said I do not know with what weapons World War 3 will be fought, but World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones.

2010 Silverado 1500 4x4 4 door 5.8 bed with bac flip cover
I have 8 Jerry Cans along the back wall (6 with gas/Stabil and 2 with water). I also have a mount for one of my 6 ARs in the back and spare 12v battery
I have a 12000lb winch that I have yet to attach to my rear hitch

Upgrades I'm planning:

Cobra CB
Pushbar
roof light bar
Go light

maybe a cargo rack and ARB later

I haven't seen any advantages in my 1009. It's loud, it's cost almost as much as I bought it for in repairs, no radio, no AC. It's fun though so far.
I'm naming mine the Rattler. A mechanic heard me telling another the make and model and sure enough that fits the bill on these engines.
