Proper tow bar connection to any CUCV?

I sent in a number of towbar manuals and Patracy put them in the tech manual section under "Resources". You can find what you need there if no one comes up with the correct picture. I don't think there is a pic of the CUCV in there hooked up, but you can see pictures of other vehicles which will give you the correct connections.

MikeV: Only a couple things that I would do next time.....
1) Get the correct pin behind the pintle ring
2) Use TWO chains. A single chain allows too much sway travel should your towbar fail at some point.
3) And always zip-tie the link behind the hook, so it can't bounce off the chain.
4) I would flip the feet over on the towed vehicle end. If you go through a big dip, they can bind on the square tube.

Great input pctrans.

That was a brand new (in the box) tow bar and believe it or not, the hole for the pin was not reamed out and the factory pin did not fit - so we had to use a "tractor bolt" (fixed now). No TM was in the box, so I "winged it" regarding foot orientation - now I have a TM, know and you reinforced the proper orientation. No second chain at the time, but have acquired some since then and I did zip tie the safety chain hook end if that was what you were talking about...

Next time, I'll be much better prepared.

So, my photos were probably NOT a good example of proper towing and we won't even go there about one 09 pulling another 09... :whistle:

One reason I was asking was because I've seen some CUCV at our favorite auction site have just the bars sticking out of the bumper and some have bars with D-Links hanging from them. I was sure you didn't hook the tow bar up to the D-Links.

Those tow bars that you are using look pretty hefty for towing CUCV around.

Wish I had known about adding the chains - one more item to add to my tow bag... and THAT towbar was borrowed. I've since purchased my own. Sure comes in handy if you need to TOW ONE HOME... Or from Denver to Dallas...

Hmmm, looks like I did have the feet oriented right, but what pctrans said about dips and binding made sense too.

Next time I'm home, I'm going to put a tow bar foot on my front tube and check for travel and binding...

I would only use the D-links in an emergency and only for a real short distance at slow speeds. There will be too much slop in the set up and the D-links will probably break eventually.

Yeah Mike he is right about the feet binding if used that way, not sure what the TM says but come by and try one of mine, I always flip them to stop from binding up behind my five tons.
