Ether start system...... Refill Process?

What is the process to refill the ether for the ether start system?

Anyone know how long a can should last?

At that cost, it might be time to engineer my own system... sheesh!

Go to your local truck parts store . One bottle should last you the winter. You don't want to use except when really needed.

Edit ; the bigger truckstops in your area should have them also.

Ok.. thanks for the info.. I'll stop by the local truckstop and check it out.

Napa or Hd stores sell them but Truck stops Pilot etc are also a good bet. Retail around $50. Difficult to buy on line as it is a hazmat up charge to ship.

They are not refillable to my knowledge even thought they look like the same valve as propane.

Make sure to get one that says for diesel with cyl lubricant as they have oil also in the ether shot to the engine.

One can all winter???? Wow, that's a lot of ether use. I think my can will last me my entire life! And there is a spare mounted under the hood. Two lifetimes!

well yeah, you would never need it in So. Cal. Used mine last weekend. It was about 24 degrees and just wouldn't start. Finally I figured I would give it a try. Didn't even know if there was ether in the can or not, just picked it up in July. Worked like a champ. Fired right up. I love this truck!

Can someone describe the proper use of the system? Newb here. I always heard using ether to start a diesel was bad.

When you use the system, it sprays a very precise amount of ether into the system. When you spray ether out of the can into the engine, it gets way more, and thats when things can go bad...

So is it just a touch of the button once, or a press and hold? Does it meter a small amount, regardless of how long the button is pushed?

I did not have a part no., I just asked if they had the Quick Start ether cylinders and called around to the different heavy truck dealers. My local John Deere said they could order one but I finally found one at Kenworth. There are about three different brands out there but all fit the unit.

Mine has a dash plaque with very specific instructions: Press and hold for 3 seconds, wait 3 seconds and start. Is your dash plaque missing?

Picked up a bottle of ether, put into M925.....started right up after a quick shot. I had trouble locating a bottle except from Napa (local Freightliner dealer did not have nor were they buying them anymore)

I paid $50!!!! Any nationally known sources that stock ether at a better price?

Thank you Doghead. I was just at John Deere picking up a part for the tractor....will ask them to order a bottle next time I'm there.
