How much can a 5 ton tow?

I had a couple M813s with commercial dump beds on them,I have hauled 20 tons of dirt.

Well, I didn't want to scare anybody out of posting but last fall i hooked one of our trucks on our hopper bottom on a weekend and hauled a dozen loads of corn to town. I pulled across the scale at 96,000 lbs!!!! and i could definitely tell it was back there! It sure wasn't a peterbilt but it was a blast and got a lot of looks!

When I was at Fort Benning I hauled a narrow guage railroad boxcar (very old wooden one with metal frame and no wheels) from Kelly Hill to DRMO on main post using an M818 and drop deck lowboy. We had an MP escort and I never got out of Low Range. Top speed was about 25 MPH.
When I crossed the scales at DRMO I was grossing way over 100,000. My Motor Sergeant was not amused.

That sounds like a nasty heavy load. As for the speed, i believe it. It was about 2 miles to the mill with a good sized hill to clime and i got it going 35-40mph before it started climbing. It ended up clearing the top at about 12mph. One thing about these trucks that i have found is that they don't have enough power to hurt themselves.

Cool ramp, where did you get it?

The ramp is made by Mag-Liner and stows under the bed, through the access hatch in the back.
It is great for loading and unloading, with a rating of 1500#.

Well most interesting haul for us was 4 x 16 inch battleship shells, a 700 40mm projos, and 100 or so 76mm projos...

LOTS of weight there...

Had to move our 80,000lb excavator across the road from one pit to the other today. Side loaded it onto a junk old lowboy. Everything was severely overloaded. Had the tires on the truck at 80psi and they looked like they had 20psi for sand! lol Should have used low range but, didn't want to get on the road and have to backup... Could hardly get it rolling in high!

These trucks amaze me. I cannot wait to get one. I had to stop myself from bidding what I thought was too much on a few of them today.

Still haven't taken a picture yet, but I've been hauling about 10 yds
Of basalt rock, which is supposed to Weigh a little over 3k lbs a yd, on a regular basis recently. Using it as fill to level out behind my brothers house as well as building up a house pad for his neighbor. Done at least 30 loads so far.

Truck does great on the first 2 mile stretch of flat road from where we are getting the rock. Averaging 45-50 mph, but that last 1/2 mile of hill really slows her down. Just before I slow Down to make the turn into the driveway, I'm down in 2nd, and under 15mph.

I've seen the same pictures from across the left pond, I think Thialand or Vietnam. I've seen some hairy ones from Russia crossing rivers.

They will handle 100,000 lbs and keep cooking. My dad and uncles moved houses when I was young and he will tell you if you can get it on wheels a five ton will move it. Here's a picture I have posted before.

In the early 90's when my brother and I had our M543's we bought two WWII air port snowblowers at auction. We towed them about 25 miles back to our yard with the Mack powered M543. These things where huge and heavy. The blowers where powered by giant gas motors mounted on the back. We lifted the rears up just to where the blower on ft would not drag the ground and away we went.

We where young and stupid. Point is that truck pulled those home like a trooper. Slow yes but it got us home twice with that heavy load.
We sold them to a guy in Maine. He came down and loaded each one on a lowboy trailer. He was shocked when we told him how we got them from Bridgeport back to home. Back then that Mack M543 never said no to anything we asked of it.

The opposite of what we are looking for here. My friends were all busy when GL load out day came, I was too excited to wait. I was in the middle of building my service body set up for welding. The fender clearance was nearly nothing after I got the truck loaded I would I was sure it was going to ruin the tires by the time I got home. Everything turned out okay though.
