Hi all. I am on the verge of picking up a M46a2 which is nicely set up as an RV. Sadly I will be leaving Alaska in June. I do plan to drive the M46a2 down to Alabama and live in it down there. Should be an adventurous drive. Ill be soaking up all the info I can find on the forums before I go. Thanks in advance.

Welcome from Ohio

Alabama? Good, Wreckerman needs company.

Make sure you post up your trip route so members can offer assistance if needed.

Welcome from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. That's one nice RV!!! You will really be burning up some dinosaurs running that thing from Alaska to Alabama. You will have to keep us informed as you make the trip, and don't forget pictures.

Welcome from Southern California. Check out our member map as well to see who lives near your proposed route. We love pictures! Sorry you're leaving Alaska, but I'm sure you'll enjoy Alabama as well (warm Gulf waters etc.).

Thanks every one for the welcome and offers. I'll be going the long way, going to see family in California before heading east. Will be leaving here the end of May. Had a lot of fun today dealing with the insurance companies trying to find one who would cover the rig. Never thought that would be an issue.

It will be a fun trip, I drove the Al-Can Hwy 3 times in the 90s.
Fairbanks to Washington D.C. in 7 days (4,822 miles) with a wife, baby and 2 cats....
GOOD TIMES.
Have fun, take lots of pictures.

Well i got home late last night with My new deuce Brutus. The drive up from Anchorage went quite well. We camped on the Knik River a little north of Anchorage. From there to the house was 324 miles. By my GPS I averaged 44 MPH with my goal speed of 50MPH.
Only had two issues. The low beams were intermittent and the fan belt started squealing about 100 miles from home. Tried tightening the belts but no change. was able to get it home safely keeping an eye glued to the temp gauge. I will detail the head light issue in the modification forum.
Other than those Brutus ran like a top and has great road manners. Got lots of rubberneckers and people asking me about it when i stopped places.

Funny, I took my 813 to a birthday dinner yesterday and one of the neighbors came out to talk about it and said he was from Alaska and wanted to get one to take back with him.

:)

Welcome from sunny S Fla. best of luck on your upcoming trip. Interesting truck you have there. Looks like it started life as a 3000 GPM erdalator. Does the left side of the box still open?

Swbradley1 - I dont know about the 813's but when they decomissioned all the deuces up here they didnt send them south so they are avaliable and so are parts. He might be able to find a decent deal on one up here.

Recovry4x4 - you are correct. I picked it up from rronning 84 who framed out the box as an RV. Would make for a nice porch if it did open. Here is a link to his build.
