Govplanet pickup /Barstow

I hope I'm not breaking any rules by asking this. I also searched and didn't see any information. I'm waiting on my EUC to clear to pickup my m998 and trailer. I know I have to schedule a pickup time and call to confirm. My question is, do they start the truck and bring it out to me or do I just drive up to it? Also I plan on driving it home. I only live about 50 miles from Barstow. I contacted AAA and they will issue me a trip permit to drive it home and my insurance agent will issue me insurance. I want to be legal and safe for myself and others on the road. I realize each state has their own laws, but according to AAA in California all I need is the trip permit and insurance to be legal. I realize I sign saying it's for off-road use only, however with the trip permit I should be legal to drive it home. I'm not trying to register it or anything like that, just want to drive it home. I hope these are legal questions to ask and I don't get in trouble!
Thank you!

They will not allow you to drive it off base. You would have to get it towed off.

Typically they escort you to your truck, they do not bring it out for you. Often times the GP trucks are no longer on base. They have lots off base that they store their trucks at and they give you the location once you get an approved for pickup.

What forms are they going to accept to issue the trip permit? If you need a bill of sale they will not issue that until after you pickup the truck.

Yes; you will have to sign an authorization for pickup and send it to them... They have to be there between the times that GP gives you, if early they will sit there and if late it will have to be rescheduled.

So do they bring the Humvee outside the gate, or do I go on base and load from there? Where does the change of possession occur?

Where ever it sits. Usually the GP lots are either rented gated lots or storage lots at wrecker co. Many of them are not on base. Not always though...

From GP... she (don't remember her name) said "nobody is allowed on base on the weekends". So I'm ASSUMING it's some military property.

Greenjeepster thank you for your advise. I'm a newbe and to this but the Humvee kept me safe in Kuwait ans Iraq. So I love that truck!

bob69302 I will be picking up my m998 from Barstow and will let you know how it goes for me. I ordered a notarized bill of sale and received it with in a week of paying the additional fee... plan on having your off road toy towed home or tow it yourself. The last time I was at Barstow with govliquidation I had to clear at the front gate for a base pass that took almost an hour, drove to the govliquidation office and they escorted me to the location of my generator that was loaded and I left...

I've picked up scores of trailers and 7 trucks from Barstow. You enter thru the back gate, not the front gate. Everything I've bought since 2012 has been driven if it had an engine or towed if it had a pintle hitch. I've even relied on a M932A2 starting and then hooked up my M146 semi and towed it home. There's too much drama injected into how your property is released too you and recovered, at least in Calif and and Nevada. They want it gone and you own it....

I might of went thru the back gate lol I used exit 2! it was close to the highway... If CA gives to a temp transport tag heck give it a shot... I am 508 miles away so I have to be more conservative!!

My concern with driving the HMMWV off is you are instantly breaching contract and they are likely to be more than willing to re-sell your item and keep their restocking fee.

Thank you for all the feedback guy's. SL were any of your trucks labeled off Highway use only? Greenjeepster makes a good point that I am instantly breaking the contract.

Bob, the HMMWVs are the only vehicles recently (that I can think of) that have the off-road use only restriction on them.

bob69302, no all of my trucks were various configurations of M939's. The offroad only contract is a liability "protection" for the vendor to comply with the Fed DOT. I don't know how close you are to SLO, I have a bunch of Hunter medium towbars, I could loan you one for the recovery . You'll need a pintle hitch and a 3/4 ton truck to tow it. PM if I can help you out with the tow bar.

I herd the barstow pickup point is off base.
Also....if towed where wheels are on the ground can get you a ticket if vehicle being towed has no plates.
I'm 75 miles from Barstow and might be able to help, as I have a 20 ft. trailer for my Hmmwv's.
I have tons of parts also.
