M1025A2 Question

Hey everyone,

New user to the forum and hopefully a new hmmwv owner soon! I’ve been reading all the posts the last few days and wanted to post a few questions.

I’m looking at getting a M1025A2 and there are 2 model years available - 1995 and 2002. Other than age difference, are there any advantages of going with a 2002 over the 1995. The 2002 is 25% more which would pay for a lot of things it will need.

To follow that up, is it fair to assume the later the rebuild year the better on these?

Just wanted to get y’all’s opinion. Thank you for your help!

The 2002 will have (from the factory) a GEP engine and the 1995 will have a GM engine, which is more prone to cracks.

My 1995 has a GEP. Most Of these 1025a2's went thru rebuilds so model year doesn't really mean anything and they were all in various levels of conditions no matter what rebuild year they had

I bought a 30 year old truck to allow me to insure and title as a classic vehicle. It bypasses some titling issues.

I don’t know what it is like to title a vehicle in Georgia, but some states won’t even consider allowing you to title and drive a former military vehicle.

Thanks everyone for the help on this. Ended up pulling the trigger on the 1995 model and hopefully taking delivery in 4-6 weeks! A ton more questions to come (after searching) for sure :)

If this is your first purchase with Gov Planet 4-6 weeks is pretty optomistic. The End Use Certificate process moves along like any typical government activity. Sometimes you can start a family faster that they move! LOL

Allot of things to consider, I bought 2 M998s because of Texas will not give a "regular" registration to any HMMWV with a GVWR of over 10K, this leaves most of not all 4 digit HMMWVs having to get special registration with all the accompanying restrictions.

Ha, that is true. I actually didn't go the GovPlanet route and got one from Eastern Surplus. I wanted to make sure I got a GEP motor and the Rod Hall suspension made it attractive. I probably paid more going that route but they are going to go through it mechanically and make sure it is sorted before I pick it up. Less of a gamble than going the GovPlanet route from what I've read and is already titled, which should make it easier for registration.

You are very wise to buy an Eastern unit. The Eastern 1025 GMVs are special trucks and did not rot for ages unused in GA or CA. Love mine, runs like a scalded dog.

the Eastern surplus trucks were the bottom of the barrel trucks...it’s what was left over after they were picked through. I know the 2 companies that hand picked best of them.

I thought Eastern bought about 2/3 of the supply that was offered. They may have not got first pick but hardly bottom of the barrel when you’re buying that many. Nonetheless I trust they will get any problems sorted before I take delivery.

eastern had the same ad 9 months ago for $11,500. A friend of mine bought one. When it arrived, there were damaged and missing parts. He was told via email that the online pics are for reference only. Not the actual one for sale.
Their now $14,675 price does not include windshields, mirrors, roof, rear seats, commander seat, etc. the driver seat will be the old springy style.
Holy crap, Batman! They charge $500 for the 2 windshields. Those are about $35 each from AMG. $6,000 for a 4-man softtop kit with doors and 4 used highback seats.
Side view mirrors add $510. If you want front seatbelts, add $450. You want wipers, add $500.
I hope you read the fine print !
You will be pushing towards $25,000 toget a nice useable truck from them.

I know, it’s a bit crazy. For a lot of those parts I would have likely replaced any way. I was told that it will go through the shop and get mechanically sorted (powertrain, lights, suspension) and fluids changed. Now if I get it and there are obvious powertrain or suspension issues we’ll have a problem. I do hate that the price has crept up on these - it seems demand is rising. The ones I was following on GP were going for about this and I felt it was more risk and of course longer wait.

Curious to hear anyone’s experience who’s purchased an Eastern unit.

Thanks
Dave

why are you dead set on an old GMV? I know you mentioned the suspension ...but its useless unless your using it for extreme off-road. Seems the US Military didnt need that suspension on the hundreds of thousands of other HMMWV’s is manufactured.
The GMV’s were beat to crap...if you ever served in the military and worked with SOF you would know why,
Anyway,,,GLWS

The listing we have is generic and used to help show examples of trucks in various conditions. with now over 50 hmmwvs in stock ( M998, M1025, etc) , it is difficult to list them individually. So we created this listing to help know what options and configurations are available. We then build out to specific requests of customers

Ala Carte Style - so you can pick and choose what you want/don't want to add - or want to put on yourself

All trucks are shown to customer before we start work on them- for approval of the actual vehicle being used for the build

All M1025A2 GMV HMMWV's already have clear and correct Road ready Pennsylvania Titles

I bought one of these 1025a2s, and i couldnt be happier. I love the Rod hall Suspension, which actually appears to raise the vehicle about 2 additional inches over stock. It also handles and drives amazing with no hesitation to overcoming any obstacles I've yet encountered, not to mention the huge springs, and oversized remote reservoir shocks just look absolutely as amazing as they preform. Eastern made it clear what would and wouldn't be included in the base price, at the time I was on a budget, so that was fine with me. They weren't sneaky or anything, they listed everything up front. They have great customer service people that can answer any of your questions, and help make sure you get exactly what you are wanting and expecting, no surprises at all. I have to say, I'm very pleased and satisfied with my truck, and experience with Eastern Surplus. You getb a good running, mechanically sound 1025a2, with a title. That takes all the guess work and doubt out of buying one. In the end its up to the individual as far as to exactly what they are wanting out of one of these trucks, but I am glad I went this route, and I love my truck! I would do it all over again. In fact, I am planning to. Hopefully by the end of the month, I will be buying my second one from them. Obviously they are doing something right.

I didn't purchase an eastern unit i went the gov planet route, I have purchased parts from eastern but mainly bc i live in PA and i avoid shipping by picking it up. Either way you pulled the trigger you now own a HMMWV, enjoy it. Start looking around for parts, there are plenty of places to get them. You can work with that base model and build it yourself. Start downloading TMs and i will say this site is an excellent resource as well.
