All buttoned up, good oil flow now at idle, and I think I accidentally fixed my original fuel sending unit, seems to be working now.
I've never encountered an "accidentally fixed" item.....must be rare like hen's teeth.......I do have a whole bunch of accidentally broken experiences tho.

When I got the truck the sending unit was stuck fast, cleaned it a lot, it ohmed out ok but the arm wouldn't move freely. It sat in diesel in my tank for couple years, I took it out last week, cleaned on it a bit more and presto, it started working, I'd call that an accident, I was just about to hit order on a website that carries new M 38 senders .;)

On mine when I was going thru it, I pulled the sending unit off of the tank and all that was left of it was the "cover" with bolts holing it in place, everything that was supposed to be inside of the fuel tank was gone, looked like it had been sitting in acid.

More joy, my rear bearing assembly was not installed correctly, think I will disassemble the whole thing this weekend, drive shaft, center bearing and rear bearing and get that all squared away. While I'm there I think I will disassemble the center bearing housing and inspect/ and re pack the bearing, or replace if it looks like crap.

It's turning into one, the bearing is seized on the shaft, once I get it off I'll have everything out, I'll post some pics, day 2 not done yet.

Here it all is, rubber insert looks good, the bearing not so much, it quit being a bearing some time back and became a solid mass
Getting the bearing off the shaft was the hardest part, air chisel and plenty o pb blaster saved the day

Bearing has a number on it, already found a replacement online .

The TM said just unbolt everything and slide that driveshaft right out, didn't quite work out that way.

Polish and grease the hell out of the shaft before you slide that bearing back on!!!

I located the bearing from a place called locate ball bearings.com, they have 63 in stock, it is almost extinct, it is a BCA bearing and they don't even list is any more. The NSN and military part number show obsolete everywhere I checked. Looks like 63 dollars plus the ride.
Just an FYI for anyone looking for it or a spare
I figure if this one lasts as long as the old one I'll be dead before I need another

I used the number on the bearing, 88208WW, it was produced by BCA. The company I called is locateballbearings.com, I emailed them an inquiry, the responded with a number to call direct 1 800 409 3632 ext 7021, a guy named Keith took care of me

They are a wholesale company, but would sell me just 1, probably why it cost so much. He said is was old BCA stock that they had bought up, now only 62 left.;)

Are you sure that's not 89208WW That sure looks like a 9 instead of an 8.

Yes I'm sure, 89 turns up nada I checked it both ways, fella that helped me said 88208 was a valid number, cleaned the old bearing a little more, easier to see now.
