Hi all,
I'm new to this community and to Humvees and happy to exchange!

Few months ago I got this M1043 that was matching my requirements - even more as there's a surprise on the engine side.

It's nicknamed Honey Badger and is said to have been deployed in middle east though I never really trust these glorifying tales.

So it's got the heavy doors, hard steel top and slant-back. These were the basic requirements.

It's got miles and has been a bit beaten but it drives straight and feels strong and healthy except a couple issues that will require some work.
The interior is in decent shape. The turret hole has been covered and I had to redo the wiring for the red dot which seemed to have suffered a short and melted a few wires.
Plenty of ammo and rifle mounts and holders that I wonder if I should remove or keep to honor the DNA of the vehicle.
Also one can notice this humvee was originally tan, which surprised me as I thought that humvees are always assembled green and then repainted based on their allocation. Maybe I was wrong and would be happy to learn more about this as I've recently read all versions and their opposites...

Doors look legit. Skins are composite with a relatively thick steel plate riveted on them. Windows have obviously been recently replaced and aren't bullet proof - which I obviously not need and I will consider removing the steel plate because 1. X doors look auper cool and 2 the plan is to replace the springs to improve the ride and off road abilities which starts by saving weight by the bucket.

I'd be happy to know if someone has experience removing the steel plates - like there would be some adhesive that would make it a mess or worse: damage the composite panel?

Do you mean a cable would come through the rim and ends attached to the thingy at the center ?
I think it requires different hubs that have a provision for the airline. I’m not in anyway an expert on it.
For the wheel winch it’s kinda goofy.

That's a 6.5 turbo in there.
Good news and bad news as it very likely means the original engine was shot which confirms this poor boy was beaten to death.
I'll need help identifying the type of the engine and I suspect the tranny, as I'm totally new to humvees. I'll post pictures and IDs when I start working on it.

What seems to be the WG on the right is damaged and totally stuck, that will be my first area of focus to sanitize this.

So in the end I have a great looking slant-back with a turbo diesel engine! I paid more than I thought I would ever put in an Humvee but it was already titled and has all I wanted - which was unlikely to be found.

Now of the minus side:
- powersteering is virtually non existing
- brake assistance is chaotic
- charging is random and the dual voltage regulator is physically damaged

My plan is to put all that in good shape after an overall fluid replacement and electrical cleanup.

I'm also planning to paint it sand color - the one missing requirement here to make it perfect 😎

That, at least, I had figured it out :geek:

Do you know how easy it should be to actuate the assembly? I cannot move it at all.
I will need to take it appart anyway, and I followed the link to the adjustable WG setup which is easy to make. I'll post pics.

I couldn’t figure mine out either. I pulled and I pushed with enough pressure that should have opened it up. Only after I got it off it would function. I think it was rusted closed

A2 and later Hmmwv hubs are ctis capable, but was never a standard production option.
someone converted your truck to turbo,military did not perform that conversion.
Yes that's right. Previous owner (first civilian owner) did the conversion and he also replaced the transmission. There are a few things that bother me and I will seek guidance on this forum when I work on it. In exchange I'll post tons of pics :)

I have also heard people claim they are used as tie down points when being air dropped.

I have never seen any evidence of either of those situations, and discussions with people that loaded them to rail cars or set them up for air drop all say they have never used them for that nor ever heard of it.

Inside the truck there is a data plate showing the appropriate tie down locations and what they are rated for. The brackets on the hubs are not shown on that diagram, nor have I ever seen anywhere else any evidence they have any type of tie down rating.

May want to look inside the dog house, looks like something is melting in there, nice truck!
It looks like the previous owner did not install the turbo floor conversion pieces, that is why it looks so tight, post pics of the doghouse, what little I can see looks like someone possibly converted a NA dog house.
