This is exactly why so many preach to do a FULL service on any surplus vehicle before riding around the neighborhood showing off their new toy, or thinking it is a good idea to hitch hike down to the yard and driving their new purchase home.

That is what I thought of first too. Then again, the RTV seal was still stuck, the draiin plug is stripped and won’t budge, and all the other fluids were still full. So weird…
Welcome to the world of HMMWV ownership! Someone posted a pic of the inside of a fuel tank awhile back I can't seem to find, it was educational to say the least. Not to add to your workflow I would advise pulling the fuel sender and putting an eyeball in the hole. The fuel systems ability to become contaminated is my personal pet peeve with these things. When clean it works great but seems to crud up pretty easily. I see you own wrenches and know how to use them, BIG plus for HMMWV ownership.

Need more help, please.

Have had the M1123 rig for about 2 weeks now. Always have had power steering almost non existent. Fluid is topped off and always large air bubbles, not the tiny ones that make the fluid milky, but the larger ones like when pouring a soda into a glass. Just this morning I found the pressure hose on top of the hydro booster loose.

Hydro Booster 1.jpg

After tightening, the awful noise from the power steering (probably the sucking in air) was gone but still no PS. So, I connected the TDM (and by default the Cadillac valve), still no PS. BUT, after shutting down the system started spewing ATF from the leftover fording lines, coming from the PS reservoir and out of the PS reservoir cap.

Pwr Steering purge.jpg

Disconnected the TDM and no more back spewing. Huh? Whaaat?

My question now, has anyone had that, what is the culprit, the Cadillac Valve, TDM, hydro Booster?

Thanks in advance...

From the view of the second picture you are missing a power steering reservoir............ look at some of the truck pictures and compare to yours..... big round and black right behind the generator over the left valve cover............... or do you have the older style with the integral reservoir on the front of the engine, could not see it in any other pictures posted.

The 1123 has a UOC of NNN, it has the pump mounted reservoir
Actually it shows up with both style pumps...

Depends on his serial number, I suspect he has the pump mounted reservoir

What is the serial number of your truck???

Thanks for replying. It is the older style, the reservoir is built in the pump, service cap/port is below the generator.

But the only difference between no P/S and no P/S and gushing out when shut down is if I have the TDM/Cadillac Valve connected electrically. If it's disconnected it does not gush over.

You may have some air in the fan clutch circuit it should work itself out , I am trying to find a fording schematic, are you sure the PS pump is not over filled??
When you plug the TDM in and out can you hear the fan kick in and out?

Here is a simplified schematic the line that went from the PS pump to the valve should now go to the air filter, but you are probably getting air into the PS system somewhere that is what is causing the fluid to "bubble" out, you need to check all the return hoses and clamps and if that does not work replace all the o ring seals in the high pressure hoses., the hose that went from the CDR valve just needs to be removed.

Haven't had it running long enough to pay attention the fan. Will start looking out thou.

Yea, the line is connected to the PS cap, and runs to the filter. The lines are open where the Cdr used to be, and it's open where the fording canister used to be. Should I plug all these? One of my low pressure lines on the lower end of the is in rough shape. Probably will replace or trim next. But since I tight d the upper high pressure fitting, I don't habe the gurgling hissing sound anymore. Probably lots of air still in the system?

I would try purging the fluid. Tires off the ground and crank the wheel back and forth while someone eyeballs the fluid in the reservoir. FYI, when purging an empty reservoir and system one crank of the wheel will empty the reservoir. Air trapped in the pressurised fluid is what is boiling over, how it got there is the mystery. The cadillac valve being under pressure is confusing as to how it could introduce air into the fluid............. And by the way , the procedure calls for 10 or 20 cranks side to side to purge one...............

TNDRIVER is correct but left out the most important step.

Jack the vehicle up so that it is at least 15 degrees elevated front over back. Then start the vehicle and turn the front wheels right locked to left and then left to right lock, 20 times. Then put the vehicle down and let it sit for two hours.
