Does anyone here have experience, good or bad, getting an LMTV from Hawaii to the west coast?
Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!
They are in Kapolei on Oahu. I just bought a 2006 M1079A1 to add to my collection. When they sell for $1,000 it’s very tempting!
What island are they on?
Thank youSearch keyword is “Matson”
The JUNK I worked on for the Hawaiian National Guard was so rusted I certainly wouldn't want to own it. Only place I have trained where we were ROUTINELY changing HMMWV hydraulic brake hard lines. Even with the silicone brake fluid they were rotting out. Had a couple trash cans FULL of rusted brake hard lines and I could see THROUGH the doors and hard tops on the deuces and 5 tons.
The FMTV's did come with a 20 year corrosion guarantee but Hawaii is a special kind of hell for vehicles.

That one I assume.
Driveshafts are properly F'd..... AND that's a low pinion truck. Don't let them drive it till new driveshafts are installed!!!
I’ve already told them it cannot be driven
Filthy with rust. Lord help ya brother. Hope you're a young man with lots of patience. The price was right - probably about $25k to get it here - needs tires and driveshafts immediately though and every stitch of rubber and hoses......so...... Having lived as a mechanic basically for my whole adult life - not the one I would want to deal with. Not to save $10k-$15k. Good luck!
I already plan on replacing every hose and all rubber. I’m hoping Goodyear gives me another sweetheart deal on tires. My old tires from my 1998 M1078 are in much better condition and I refuse to ride on them. I won’t be riding on these either.
Contact me when you are ready for a diagnostic solution and the 370 HP tune.
I plan on it
Why have a Hawaiian shop install ECO hubs for a boat ride? That will just be needlessly expensive. Can easily do that when it lands. And it probably needs a hub and brake service (that damn red sand gets into everything) anyway....
I figured it’s going to be there a while pending paperwork to load it. I might as well let them do some of the basic rehab.

And not even any good reason for it! The truck runs! Idiots the lot of them..... But also they don't give a fast flying fart about breaking Uncle Sam's discarded trash and know they will never be accountable to the buyer so....... Assume NOTHING..... I would be so nervous leaving all this in the hands of a bunch of people I will (in all likelihood) never meet in person.attack of the forklift!

Never fails. Want something done right? You know the rest...... Not worth the "savings" to deal with the incompetence and the next decade of problems from a dozen people involved in repairing and shipping it not to mention whatever the girls down at the base did while in PT uniforms and flip flops on "Island time"
