I had a Deuce box left over from a project and it was in just too nice of shape to scrap. I also had a set of 7000# Dexter axels with springs and equalizers given to me that had been sitting in the back 40 for a few years, as well as a set of load range "E" tires and a set of one-ton wagon wheels that I aquired over time. (yes the wife thinks I collect alot of junk) So I figured "what the hay", put them all togather and I made a trailer out of them. It pulled nice and strait, but I didn't have a use for it. So I built it pretty much to sell so I could make some extra scratch. I also had 2 gallons of gray industrial paint in the garage left over from my shop, so I painted it that. I figured it would sell to the general public faster gray, then if it was left OD. It took only two days to sell.

Sweet!! Two questions, what did you get for it if you don't mind me asking, and did you consider welding the spring hangers directly to the bed frame rails to make a super low profile trailer? I've kicked this trailer concept around myself for a long while.

No, I don't mind you asking, LOL.

I sold it for $1600. I realy had no idea what it was worth, but I didn't have much into it other than time. (I built it and painted over the weekend) The bed was left over, and back in 2007 scrap wasn't much during that time. Plus everything else I had around from just acquiring things over time, and things left over from other projects. The only cost was the trailer jack, and the quart of Rustoleum satin black paint for the frame.

As for the "low profile" idea, yes a lower bed height would be nice. But with running suspension on the trailer, the tires would hit if I didn't use the Deuce frame. I think the frame is like 7" or 8" tall, and with out it the Deuce box would sit directly on the tires with out even a load in it.

Prolly most of us have thought of this at one time or another. When I get a XLWB M809 to convert into a motorhome, whether it's a -14 or a -20, I want to mount the old body on a pair of 5 Ton trailer axles with a new frame and a semi-permanently mounted set of drawbars. Of course, I'd have gone with Battleship Gray if I'd had my druthers, RidgeRunner.

Serious technical question, with a cargo bed rigged up as a trailer like this, is there an easy way to make it a dump bed for materials while leaving it hitched to the tow rig, or better yet, drop the rear on the ground so a car or small truck could be driven (or winched) up into the bed like a redneck RORO?

And this is redneck engineering par excellence.

No way hillbilly. My front tooth is still white after seeing the pictures. Hillbilly is 3 tires of different sizes, 1 flat, 2 bald, 6 missing lug nuts, Beer can patch panels, Lawn chairs in the back, 3 bicycles that don't work, a old shot up beer keg in the back, a sink, unused bath tub, 4 or 5 used ford or Chevy engine blocks and assorted transmissions, Used shot gun shells, A never used condom or two, 5 dirty kids playing in the rear and thats just the start:-D
