When I was working on my M1009 this weekend I noticed some markings had been painted over.

So I used a spray paint stripper and slowly started to uncover the letters.

The first letter I noticed was an S.

Then a D and a U

As I kept taking off layers and layers of paint more outlines of letters started to appear.

The moment I had been waiting for was about to come true, to find out how my M1009 served its country.

I was finally able to read what was under the paint...

It was SPECIA....errr

Student Driver

Any one else have a Student Driver M1009?

Hahaha! That's awesome! I was just giving a friend of mine crap because he's doing some training at Ft Dix w/ the MRAP's and he has a big student driver plate on the front of his!

Why would some one be doing a driver's ed in this thing?

Or would it be part of some vehicle familiarity training program?

I've got a buddy who got tired of being the only person in his unit that could drive the 900 series trucks.

So he 'accidentally' side swiped an empty guard shack. When they told him he was about to have his driving privileges revoked on the 900 series, "OH DARN, what will I do now". Trying all the while to NOT break out into a big grin.

You have to 'qualify' in the military to drive pretty much anything. I can't imagine an M1009 used for drivers ed, but worse things have been done to them for sure. I'd PROUDLY display that as part of it's linage. You could paint the whole truck, just tape over that part.

334lbsofgetdown,

I CAN tell you that the CONG is the Colorado National Guard. So it could be the 157 in the Co Nat Guard. I'd try their web page. Where did you get the truck from?
