locking a deuce cab

Has anyone put a lock on the driver's door of a deuce? I put a house deadbolt on one, using an existing hole in the door sill as a guide and some spacers inside the door. It won't keep out the real bad guys who will bust a window, but I have had problems with kids getting inside and messing around. It detracts from the authenticity, so looking for another solution. Thanks.

I am looking at puting a lock on each door of my deuce. I want it to look as inconspicuous as possible but there is a certain price to be paid for owning a deuce in today's society. Long ago you wouldn't have had to lock it up. People would respect another person's property.

I see Doghead has taken to using the "beating a dead horse" emoticon instead of telling you to use the search function.;-) So, let me say please use the search function, this has been covered before and yes, there are solutions.

You might also want to consider replacing the start push button with a key switch. I just did this, mainly because the push button was getting flaky. About $35 from the local parts place.

I think what my esteemed colleagues doghead and armytruck63 are telling you is that 99.89% of deuce related topics already have several threads dedicated to them and it's the site's policy that members need to search and find those threads and add to them, vs. creating new threads.

New members would be well served by spending several weeks reading up on older threads to acclimate themselves to the incredible amount of archived information here on the site as well as practicing their search skills.

As usual, we ask that additional discussion be taken over to whichever threads are relevant to the question at hand.

10x10,
You can buy the kind of handle that comes with the Deuce with and without an internal lock installed. I googled for lockable door handles and found several suppliers some time ago. They're cheap, too, about 4 bucks if I remember correctly.

Be sure to pick the right length and diameter when you place your order.

These are simple locks. As you said, they won't keep a serious burglar out but they will probably discourage kids from getting in and messing around inside.

You may want to lock your fuel tank, too.

Good luck !

Thanks clinto. I did try searching, but did not find those threads. Can the moderator delete this thread, since the information is already out there? Thanks to those who responded so quickly.

In his defense, the search function on our great site "aint the best in the world". I know I , and I suspect many SS members as well, have spent hours searching for a topic without much luck.
I also know that most of us find what we are looking for most of the time and only post a thread asking for help once we can't find what we are looking for. It is easy to assume members aren't using it since we don't post a thread letting everyone know that we were able to locate a topic that answers our questions. I know that 99 times out of 100 I find what I am looking for and dread having to open a thread asking a question out of fear of hearing from everyone about that already being covered, getting the beating a dead horse response, smart aleck comments, etc, etc.
Just a thought

I came outside a few weeks ago to find my door wide open and several of the switches out of position. Someone had jumped in and played around. Luckily I have kill switches on the batteries. Short of push-starting there's no way they could have got it running.

And I have two full-time dedicated security cameras pointing at the truck! You would have to be blind or an idiot to not see the cameras.

Since nothing was harmed I didn't bother looking through the security videos for the event. I've noticed some young kids playing around the truck before. They probably just wanted to sit in it. Still ...

Humanity is devolving in many respects. As a child I remember very clearly never locking house or car doors. Now, even security cameras pointed directly at them won't stop people from violating your property. And many parents no longer teach their children to respect other people's property.

I'm not a purist, so a Mr. Bean type padlock is just fine by me. I don't think it would stand out that much if it were painted the same color as the truck. I used to put them on my old FJ40 hood latches. The locks didn't look bad for that type of vehicle.

If you know the info is out there but you can't find it, might I recommend posting in this thread:

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/website-help/58151-trouble-searching.html

For instance:

Hey guys, I know there must be a thread out there about how to install a 12V trailer brake controller in my M813 but I can't find it... can someone help me?"

I will try and go through and find it and describe the process I used to find it.

Just one of the many services we offer.

Locking a deuce cab

I found by mistake, if you push the internal handle right to the front, then shut the door it will be locked, no good if you have a hard top, but with a soft top, just unfasten the back, shove your arm in and open with internal handle. This is ample to keep general public out of cab at shows etc
