I just broke down and signed up at another auction site that "deals" in government surplus ;-) (I'm being purposely vague to stay within the site rules).

I've searched their site and this one too but I can't find an answer to my question. Do they go by the "15 minute rule"?

Honestly, it's kind of a site that not everybody knows about. I really don't want to advertise for them. People that go and bid there will know what site I'm talking about.

If it's going to be a problem, I'll just delete the thread.

That site does not have any posted info on bidding "overtime" like GL does (at least that I can find), so sniping will work!!!

I bid on a about a half dozen pieces and did not experience any overtime. Doesn't mean its a guarantee but I looked on the FAQ and on a individual lot page and saw nothing to indicate there was such a rule.

I don't think they have the overtime issue. clintogf has bid over there a bunch, I will have to ask her.

One of the problems we see with the alternative site is their description of items is somewhat lackluster, sometimes. It depends on what they are trying to sell and who's administering the auction. So I would recomend some heavy duty previewing. Most of the time on GL the descriptions are fairly accurate. I say most of the time.

The other thing to worry about is sometimes they sell the items strictly as scrap. This means no SF97. Or that they do not certify the item to be roadworthy so you get a salvage title at best.

And trust me. The alternative site is not a well kept secret.

I agree with jollyroger... heavy duty previewing... Sometimes what they are selling is junk and you cannot really tell by the pictures nor description...

I wish all auctions had the 15 minute rule. It makes it more like a real auction. you have to bid to win and not rely on snyping
