Spicer TLC Time! Chipped 4th Gear?

After some thinking I'm going to attempt to rebuild this unit. With the gear Gringeltaube linked on page 1. I am still undecided about if I want to put the overdrive kit in. I'm going to need to assemble a parts list of new bearings, seals, ext... However with my upcoming excursion that I am...

Spicer TLC Time! Chipped 4th Gear?

You have a point, these trucks already struggle on anything but flat ground in 5th. However, Sacramento is pretty much flat ground all around (yuck)! And being able to go at least 60 without killing the engine would be nice. Thoes extra 5 mph really make a difference when your traveling on a...

Spicer TLC Time! Chipped 4th Gear?

Interesting. The diagram in my TM shows that being the 4th speed gear, but I could be remembering that wrong. Just to be sure we are both think thinking of the same gear, it is this one here in this picture.

Spicer TLC Time! Chipped 4th Gear?

Also, here are the plates on my spicer. I thought these were pretty cool. Says its a 3053A and that it was last overhauled in December of 1986 at Tooele Army Depot in Utah.

Spicer TLC Time! Chipped 4th Gear?

I've posted about my poor ol' gear box in my introductory thread, but I'm going to make this thread to follow my part hounding and rebuild process. I bought my Deuce about a year and change ago and haven't done anything to it (for lack of time) since then. I've recently started overhauling all...

Drain and refill spicer, now stalling in neutral!

So I've figured out what was wrong. The Fifth (EDIT: reverse, not fifth) gear was engaged, and not in its fork! Turns out I should double check things like this! I was so sure I had those forks lined up, but it must have pushed the gear back as I was trying to line everything up. The gear...

Drain and refill spicer, now stalling in neutral!

Pop it open and take a look, it's pretty easy to get open. Take the floor cover off and its 8 bolts and the top shifter fork cap assembly do dad comes right up off. You've peaked my curiosity. Just don't do what I did when you put it back on!

Drain and refill spicer, now stalling in neutral!

Oh man that's probably it. I did mess with those shift collars a tad. I will open it up today and see.

Putting Straight Vegetable Oil Directing into Tank of M35A2

Makes sense. I will use the stale gas in amounts less than 10% and just use diesel to cut the WVO if I decide to go with this. As much as a nice waterproof coating of my tank sounds, I think I might want to go another direction . I think I will try some tests in some controll tanks of...

Drain and refill spicer, now stalling in neutral!

I just drained and refilled my spicer on my m35a2 multifuel. I also took off the top of the transmisson to inspect the gears. I've sealed it up and it dry shifts through the gears fine. To be safe, I started the truck with the clutch depressed, but when I try to let the clutch out with the...

Putting Straight Vegetable Oil Directing into Tank of M35A2

Any fuel, especially gasoline, is a non-polar solvent and gew/gunk/wax should be long gone as I run fresh fuel to the brim. My thought is with adding the gasoline (quite a powerful nonpolar solvent) the waxes in WVO would be less likely to come out if solution and will instead stay suspended and...

Putting Straight Vegetable Oil Directing into Tank of M35A2

Ok guys, I've got some year old gasoline and I'm thinking of mixing it with filtered clean WVO. I was thinking of doing a 30/70 mix of gasoline to WVO or maybe a 50/50. Really all depends on how much gasoline I have. It's some old gas that's been in a toyhauler tank and the pump broke so it's...

New from Sacranento with chipped 4th gear!

Gringeltaube, I'll be sure to update my profile as soon as I'm home on my computer. This has to be a little more easy on the desktop version.

Tracer, is this BigMike different from the Big Mike's motor pool? I think someone local told me about a SS handle "BigMike" who is local to cali and different from Big Mike's motor pool. Gimpyrobb, I'll send you a message.
