If I remember the ball bearings aren't steel. Some kind of composite. It's been a long time since I had one apart. I believe it's possible that they can develop a flat spot so separating the ring and inspecting them isn't a bad idea if you have time. Especially if it's not already bolted in...

Ok. I have a set of the outer skins that were missing as well as the backing plates. I was told they were off of an 1114 anyway. I was going to cut the pointy part off of them and make a set of Jack rails out of them. Ended up using a set of the inner backing plates
and making a set of MSG...
