Ham Radio Operators / Steel Soldiers

I normally monitor the Eastern Regional Patriot Net (ERPN) on 3860 LSB at night.

LC, you have to pass all the elements to get the next higher license. In other words, you could take each element in order starting with the tech class test, pass that, then take the general, pass that, and take the extra test as well and walk out with your extra class in the bag. But you do...

Ham Radio Operators / Steel Soldiers

At the risk of making it sound too easy I will say that my test for the Advanced class ticket also included passing a 13wpm morse code test. The one I took for tech I had to copy 5wpm. Both times that was the hard part. The theory was easy for me because at the time I was teaching fundamental...

S-250 Shelter / Ham Shack Conversion

Greg, the S-250 shelter is generic. What actually went inside of any particular one depends on what it was used for. The one I have was used for a maintenance shelter. This shelter had no radio gear in it but had racks of spare parts and TMs. Typically, in my experience, this van would be...

    Recommend a good CB

Excellent! Ground plane is very important for a mobile antenna and your mounting position looks like a good one for a deuce.

Ham Radio Operators / Steel Soldiers

I edited my sig to add ham info to it. I use a Yaesu VX-7 HT and a field portable Yaesu FT-897D with side mounted auto-tuner into a Hustler mobile vertical NVIS capable. I am a former instructor/field engineer with the TTC/TYC-39 program and also worked quite a bit with the SB-3614. I would...

    Recommend a good CB

Now I also have to put my vote in for some older radios sounding better too. My 1958 Hallicrafters SX-71 receiver had the best sounding audio of any radio I ever owned. Of course it was all tube, American made, and sold new for around $350 in 1958. That was some big bucks in those days.

    Recommend a good CB

Opcom, you have hit the nail on the head brother. The only thing I might add to what you have said here is that over-modulating an RF signal actually produces LESS RF power output on the transmitted frequency not more. By producing the "splatter" onto the frequencies above and below the...

what trailer is this and a 105 question

I just scored an M1102 trailer on the auction, going to see it in real life tomorrow. Has anybody tried pulling one of these behind a deuce or 5-ton? I am thinking about converting it to 12V lights and pulling it behind my Ford Expedition.

    New M1009 - good but...

I am still looking for an M1008 from Ft. Gordon, one of these days I may get lucky and have the money and find one at the same time!
