    Vinyl wrapping

Having used some vinyl wrap on my plane, I can tell you it won't hide stuff any better than paint. If you want a smooth finish, you're going to have to prep the surface just as well as you would for paint. If there are rough surfaces, dust, cracks, etc. they'll show through way more than you...

Newbie looking for help on HMMWV research/buying

Obviously gonna need a tie breaker here. :)

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

What is that, a chunk of RTV?

    New engine, new life

The installation would be the real challenge. As for reliability, automotive electronics have come a long, long way since the days when it was common to hear about computer failures. I cannot remember the last time we or anyone we know has had a failure caused by a PCM or electronics failure...

Any info on states issuing titles for hmmwvs?

Eye of fhe beholder, I guess. I didn't think it was implied.

Any info on states issuing titles for hmmwvs?

I have absolutely no interest in doing anything "shady", nor have I read anything in this thread suggesting it. If my state issues a clean on-road title and tags, and my insurance company writes the policy, and no one has done anything illegal to get to that point, then yes... pretty much by...

Any info on states issuing titles for hmmwvs?

Very true, but it's better than nothing.

Any info on states issuing titles for hmmwvs?

Just a note about NE. I looked at an M998 for sale out southwest of Lincoln. The guy bought it at GP auction, had it trucked to him, and took his paperwork in to get it titled. He now has a title stamped "OFF ROAD USE ONLY", no no plates for him. Needless to say, I didn't buy it despite a...

Clunk when shifting between drive and reverse, or vice versa

One other possibility. I had an old station wagon once that would clunk when shifting into drive from reverse (or the other way around, I don't remember for certain). We thought it was U-joints or whatever too. Nope. Turned out to be a broken motor mount. The steel parts were intact but the...

M998 speed (or lack of it)

Thanks for the ideas, but it wasn't a stuck brake. There was no pull to either side, and deceleration was a normal coast down. No hot metal smell after the drive. Stuck brakes are not at all difficult to detect. I'm assuming it's a problem with either the transmission or the transfer case...

Anyone tried Als HNR, LizardSkin, any others? Results?

If that's the case, half the weed-whacker wannabe rolling boom boxes in this town ought to have off-road only titles.

M998 speed (or lack of it)

I'd not be surprised by a small error, but I'm pretty sure it was at leeast close. No way was I going much over 40, if that.

M998 speed (or lack of it)

No big deal. Check out an aviation forum some time. :) And I'm sure that there is no shortage of really, really dumb people asking really, really dumb questions here. I can certainly understand an assumption in that direction. If I were looking at, say, a 5-ton, or something else...

M998 speed (or lack of it)

It's possible; in fact, it was one of the things I wondered about. The surface was rough enough and the vehicle unfamiliar, so the shift points weren't obvious. I'd guesstimate the RPMs were somewhere around 3K or a little higher. Might even have been a combination of factors. I was...

M998 speed (or lack of it)

Gosh, sorry I didn't get all the operator training done prior to taking a five minute test drive of one for sale. Point taken, but maybe I should have been more thorough in my original post. I didn't want to write a novella about it, just ask the question. I've driven military vehicles...
