Poll - Who has done the Doghead Relay Conversion

Same thing happened to my 1009 a couple or more years ago. Went to start engine, the relay went crazy. Burned out solenoid, starter, wiring on fire wall. Happened so fast I did not have time to disconnect batteries. I did the dog bone and mounted a quick cutoff switch to the batteries...

My M1009 cranks but will not start

Yes, I have all the diagrams and schematics. I can't get under the hood to do most of the testing with an OHM meter, test light, etc. because I am not agile as I used to be. Not getting any younger. Most of what I can do leads me to the same conclusion that the problem is the glow plug...

My M1009 cranks but will not start

I was talking to a guy that worked as a mechanic at a local chevy dealership when the army reserve and guard unit here in the Niagara Falls area had the CUCV series in inventory. Because they were under factory warranty, the local chevy dealer got all the repair work. He stopped by a couple...

My M1009 cranks but will not start

This is a problem continued since last fall. Since the weather here in WNY has got warmer, I have re-started looking for the cause as to why my 1009 won't start. I let the plugs cycle 2 times (sometime 3 times) before starting. No luck. But, I sprayed some WD40 along with some starting fluid...

    My M1009 won't start

Never mind, you are talking about the fuel solenoid which the pink wire goes to. Easy to replace? Now that it's getting colder out, I look forward to get under the hood.

    My M1009 won't start

This what happened to me in the past. Engine would crank and start and I would be able to drive and shut down. Did a couple times a day when going to an event. Seems like as long as the engine was still warm, no problem starting. Once it sat for the night, it won't start next day. It did...

    My M1009 won't start

Okay, so now I know what to do. Much appreciated. First off, I will disconnect pink wire and and turn ignition on till WAIT light comes on and see if I have a spark from the pink wire. I will put it aside so that I can crank the engine a few times holding the fuel pedal down to get all the...

    My M1009 won't start

It was mentioned "pull the pink wire off the IP". what is IP?. Sorry, I am just not knowledgeable of the parts on a 6.2 diesel.

    My M1009 won't start

When I took off old filter, there was fuel in it. Now that I have changed filter's, I still smell fuel when cranking.

    My M1009 won't start

There is fuel in the fuel filter. When I'm cranking the engine, there is no white smoke coming out of tail pipe (at least none from what I can see). I can smell fuel. Before changing fuel filter, when I took off filter it was full of fuel. At this point in time, I do not have a voltmeter...

    My M1009 won't start

I cannot get to it today, but for sure I will do it tomorrow. Thanks Barrman for your comment. Much appreciated. Kinda woke up my brain. I will disconnect pink wire and crank engine at 6 sec. interval's as to not over heat starter. The whole time I was driving cucv's on active army duty...

    My M1009 won't start

I have not been able to start my 1009 since this past October. Prior to that, I was getting ready to attend a static display at a VFW hall. I had the 1009 running all the week before that Saturday. I got in the truck that Saturday morning. I did all the usual pre-checks before cranking...
