    Compression testing M929A2 8.3 Cummins

Got the new banjo bolt with snubber and schrader valve installed. I used a fuel pressure gauge set from Harbor Freight. Its meant for gasoline vehicles so it may not survive long but it only cost $16. Anyway the pressure at idle is 22.5 psi and at 1800rpm it is 30psi. So I think this is correct...

    trans fluid - M923A2

Also I have had no luck finding 10wt oil. Much less 10wt with a C4 specification.

    trans fluid - M923A2

I have owned 12 939A2 trucks and still have five. Three trucks were completely drained of all fluids. Of the trucks that had fluid in the transmissions I was never sure of what was in them other than that it wasnt Dexron III. I would like to continue using whatever was already in the...

    trans fluid - M923A2

Allison's own manual includes 15W40 right along with 10W and Dexron III. If oils other than Dexron III were the cause of vastly shortened life I dont think Allison would be recommending them. For operations in temps below 5F Dexron III is a better choice than 15W40 due to the 20 minute warm up...

    trans fluid - M923A2

If you get a truck that has dexron III in it you can continue using it or just drain the tranny and refill with 15W40. No need to flush as the Dexron will mix with anything and the transmission will not care.

    trans fluid - M923A2

I bought three trucks from Ft Hood that were completely drained. Normally I run 15W40 in the tranny but I decided to experiment with a NAPA heavy duty tractor and hydraulic transmission oil in the M934A2. Its basically a 15 weight oil. Well I cant tell any difference at all. I would stick with...

    Compression testing M929A2 8.3 Cummins

Ordered a Torks banjo bolt with built in snubber and a schrader valve from dieselORings.com. Plan to get a tester that will plug into the schrader valve. I already installed an adjustable return fuel check valve from Torks but since it was set at 25psi for a P7100 pump not sure what pressure it...

    Compression testing M929A2 8.3 Cummins

Thanks for all the great info. I did the test with the oil filler cap and there really is no blow by. So ill keep looking for a leak in the fuel supply.

    Compression testing M929A2 8.3 Cummins

I Put a new lift pump on it and a new return fuel check valve but have not checked the fuel pressure. Is the best way to check it to install a T in the fuel line for a pressure gauge?

    Compression testing M929A2 8.3 Cummins

Anybody done a compression test on Cummins 6cta8.3? Ive got a dump truck that is hard to start and puts out tons of white smoke while cranking. I thought it was just losing prime but thats not it. The smoke does not smell sweet. Its a bit acrid and diesel smelling. When the truck finally...

M939A2 Adjustable return fuel check valve.

Cam Davis Thanks for the tip on rubber lines on the selector valve. I've looked them over and they are showing small surface cracks. I'm awaiting better weather to mess with them.

M939A2 Adjustable return fuel check valve.

The part number for the lift pump I bought from Highway and Heavy parts is 4988749. It looks like the one you see on most trucks with the fuel line connection on top and the hand primer on the bottom. It is not the original that the trucks came with but an improved replacement. You won't...

M939A2 Adjustable return fuel check valve.

I also tried a new lift pump ( no help there) but I only paid $56 from Highway and Heavy Parts online. I also changed the canister filter gasket and O ring as well as the Schrader valve on top of the filter canister.
