    M923A1 Oil Change Intervals

So, after racking my brain on what oil to use in transmissions, I am going with Mobil Trans 30w. It is expensive but probably one of the best you can buy. It won't be changed that often so I will use what is recommended for my dozer(s) transmission. It will be a good fit for the M900 Allison...

    Hard Shifting Tranfer IN/OUT of high/low sometimes - M929/A1 w/Allison

Just an update on difficult transfer shifts. Awhile back I noticed that shifting back and fourth from "high" to "low" was much smoother. I started using my low transfer quite a bit on ranch road repair. It just loosened up as I used it more. Not something that is used very much. Using it made a...

    M923A1 Oil Change Intervals

After reading the comments and talking to my old school mechanic I think I have a handle on this now. Any 15w/40 with Lucas oil stabilizer added for a universal solution. This is for my 800 - 900 series trucks and older model dozers. This excludes gear cases and final drives. I'm sure there will...

    M923A1 Oil Change Intervals

Thank you for your 2 cents. Yes, oils and varying opinions are as cloudy as my 10 gals of fresh lift cylinder oil. I'm not off track on what I have been doing, I just want to feel confident that I'm using the right oils for my application and geographic area. Haven't had any real problems other...

    M923A1 Oil Change Intervals

This is a working M929A1. I haul and pull a a 10K trailer. I have AW32 in the transmission right now and it has been fine. I just want to get away from hydraulic oils if I can use 15w/40 in all hydraulic power systems. If I use motor oil I don't have to worry about mixing hydraulic oils. I have...

    M923A1 Oil Change Intervals

I'm not sure what you mean by "dinosaur" oil? My question is... is 15w/40 good for everything including transmission? I heard that it is... Is there any reason not to use it for power steering, transmission, hydraulics? I'm tired of juggling oil types for older equipment. I'm not speaking of...

    M923A1 Oil Change Intervals

Every time I do a full service oil change I start questioning the different oil types. I heard 15w/40 engine oil is good for everything in 800/900 series trucks. Is this true. I would like to use one oil type from this point forward. Any suggestions?

    USMC D7G A/C compressor add-on

I spent some time looking at the parts list and searching for them online. I actually found the original compressor, pulley, gear, and a few other parts that make up the compressor mount group etc... There is not enough out there to follow the original configuration. Besides, it would cost 5 or...

    1982 USMC Caterpillar D7G

Our military ordered these fully loaded with every accessory part group except air conditioning. The damn thing is only good for mild weather climates where heat is needed. The cab is useless without pressurization and AC. Better off with open cab where air and noise can flow through and out.

    1982 USMC Caterpillar D7G

So, I was looking at the D7G TM and found the A/C installation instructions which I said did not exist. They are in TM-5-2410-237-23. The compressor is driven from a new pulley installed on the back side of the water pump. It's crazy to say the least... You have to add a new gear, bearings...

    1982 USMC Caterpillar D7G

UPDATE: I pushed some piles of reclaimed road base around this weekend. The D7 runs great but there are many maintenance things to complete to make it work ready. It has to have a working A/C system. It has to have good brakes and clutch controls. Power shifting into forward and reverse should...

    Water temp gauge m923a1

I have always had to break the air lines and pull cables. Do the battery switch and start switch first. Just whatever keeps you from gaining access to the back of the panel.

    M923A1 Oil Change Intervals

Probably more like 100. Still that might be a little long too. I'm coming up on 100 hrs soon. I will probably do an oil analysis after the next 100.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

CAT D5, Bobcat T86 and attachments on several different trailers. Maybe D7G for short distances in the county. This tractor's military fifth-wheel was replace with a low profile one to pull RGN low-boy.
