MEP-803A - New to me, excited to get it going.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone. I am cancelling the order on the parts and gaskets. Company was deceptive in their advertisement, raised the price on me after I ordered (PayPal notified me thankfully). Now trying to get a refund from them so I can order from somewhere else. The push rods...

MEP-803A - New to me, excited to get it going.

A few parts ordered new to me Push Rods from a forum member, new gasket set and ordered new valves. One appeared to be tweaked a bit from the excessive amount of creosote like substance in the exhaust. So, I have tried a few different methods to remove this creosote like deposit. Soaking for...

MEP-803A - New to me, excited to get it going.

Just wanted to let you all know that life got in the way, the wallet got lighter, and this got pushed off to the back burner a bit. I plan to pick it back up soon (although it is a bit on the warm side to work on it). However, spending 2 weeks running communications for the Guadalupe River...

MEP-803A - New to me, excited to get it going.

Checking cylinders with my finger, they feel smooth. There is a little surface grit in number one that looks rusty, but it is on the surface only. The carbon on the pistons is thick, it does not come off with a simple shop towel. What tool do you recommend for removing the spring keepers on...

MEP-803A - New to me, excited to get it going.

Went ahead and took the rest of the pushrods out tonight. I would say at least 5 are damaged. Have not done the glass roll yet to check the rest, four intake are majorly bent, one exhaust is very rusty. Number 1 cylinder has heavy carbon deposits. Exhaust manifold was caked inside. I will...

Thanks but I picked up an old welding trailer on Friday, new tires and coupler today, and got the generator temporarily mounted on it. Thankfully my boss knew a guy that had a skid steer and just happened to be working next door to my house. Just had to drive it over due to a fence in the way...

MEP-803A - New to me, excited to get it going.

Just wanted to give you all an update, weather has been crazy here in North Texas and so I have not been able to work on it in the evenings after work. I am currently looking for a used trailer to put the generator on which will make it much more accessible to me than in the bed of the pickup...

Oh I do as well all the time. My Samsung has the pen and I can use the button on it as a remote shutter control. It is Tier 2 and has reman/new engine 2.5 hours.

I took a look and did not find a data plate on the engine itself as shown in the photos. There is one that I didn't see that showed up under the oil filter in a picture, I need to look at it more closely to see what it says. I am really tall, and I guess at the angle I was at, I couldn't see it...

Interesting. I thought the service that was done was related to emissions. Did they do piston changeover on low hour units?

Well looks like an LPW4 overhaul kit is fairly reasonable. Looks like it would come with just about everything needed including pistons and bearings. Sure a gasket kit is around $100, but what is the likelihood I will need more once I start digging into it? LPW4 Overhaul Kit Anyone have...

Yup that is what I saw. I pulled the offending rod and my heart sunk. I guess I have no choice now but to tear all the way into this engine. Now I definitely want it out of the bed of my truck. Serious question though. I have never done more than replace a water pump or alternator and change...

Well this is not a good sign.

I most definitely have a valve issue. Got the exhaust off and the center caps over each cylinder off. From the front of the engine (fan end) the second rocker, the fourth rocker, and the sixth rocker are all loose. But the 2nd takes the cake. I can pull the push rod completely off to the side of...

Took the covers off the top last night. What a pain to unglue the sealant on the electrical bays. Just a small amount of leaf litter in the high voltage section. At first my heart sank thinking it was a mouse house, but alas zero signs of rodent mischievousness. I belive it is just fan blown...
