M939 CTIS Reprogram, Anybody Done It?

Can't recall I would have to hook up again and see if it's there. It's not there on the truck though. The PCU is single circuit and all the air lines are plumbed that way. AFAIK all the M939 series were single circuit so a dual circuit would be useless unless you install all the lines...

M939 CTIS Controller for my FMTV?

OK first read through this: http://manuals.chudov.com/M939-Series-Trucks/CTIS-AXTS-0015.pdf The pinout looks like it will work but as stated above the data pins are in different spots. I would not plug one into an FMTV/LMTV unless I disconnected the data buss on the vehicle from the controller...

Huge mistake. I won a GP auction…. Cali FMTV Project “ ‘Merica”

I have a few Warn 18k 24V kits (had to buy three to get one of them). They are designed for the MRAP which uses the bumper so the kit does not come with mounting plate. Fine with me as I mounted it on a deuce where the PTO would go. It will pull the deuce sideways on 395's with single line no...

    Looking at buying a m936

Low miles may or may not be good. I would prioritize a well cared for truck over miles or hours (within reasonable). Reason being it's actually harder on the truck to sit. Condensation in gear boxes, water intrusion in parts that require greasing, CTIS seals that stick and tear, etc, etc... Give...

What have you done WITH your FMTV ( trips, Rescues etc) NOT: fixes, updates etc

Haha yeah I can do that old school. I have a wrecker. If needed a torch, anvil and big fat whammer work as well. But what have I done WITH my truck lately? Got through the CA DMV, then the CHP, then the DMV again. No small feat in this state! Now waiting for the title then I'm going to get...

Mep 831a black smoke won't rev up and shooting flames out the exhaust

Years ago I had an issue with a Kubota 1.5l 3-cyl diesel genset. Those motors are legendarily indestructible. So it was missing and spitting and blowing diesel and would run OK then stutter..... After doing a bunch of fuel related stuff I finally pulled the unit off the mountain location and...

Huge mistake. I won a GP auction…. Cali FMTV Project “ ‘Merica”

Childs play. When driving my M936A2 home across country I found the CTIS issue when it flattened all 6 14r20 on the side of the road. Filling them all with the engine compressor took quite some time. Would have been even nicer if it hadn't have been the plains of Wyoming in late November...

Huge mistake. I won a GP auction…. Cali FMTV Project “ ‘Merica”

Bring an air compressor (if you don't drive a truck with air). The guys are cranky about filling tires. Since I'm taking my regular pickup this time I'll be toting along a little Honda generator and a pancake compressor.....

Huge mistake. I won a GP auction…. Cali FMTV Project “ ‘Merica”

I saw that one. All I can think of these days is shipping costs..... Besides I already have a project 1998 M1078A0 that's taking too much of my time. DMV kicked me over to CHP my appointment is tomorrow wish me luck! I'm going up to Doyle on Sunday night, actually I'll overnight in Reno, then...

    M809 to M939 compare

You're right you can downshift the automatic. For me it seems that it's not very effective with the 8.3 motor. You actually NEED to on steep downhills to keep the revs up, drive the air compressor faster, keep the brakes ready. Using the "stab braking" technique to keep the drums from expanding...

    Testing Cat 3116 injectors

Well.... those are very fancy machines! When I did this work I was the machine. Nice to see the injector out I hadn't taken mine out yet (no reason). Yeah we called those unit injectors. The nozzle, pintle, spring and pump are all in one "unit". You have to set the rack up just right when...

    M809 to M939 compare

Hmmm. Well I have a 1991 M936A2 and a 1972 M817 and both are original configurations. It's really sort of an "apples and oranges" comparison between them. There's an incredible amount that's different. For starters the entire cab is way bigger on the 939 as the 809 shares the same cab with the...

    Testing Cat 3116 injectors

When I worked on ships we called this type of injector a "unit injector" because it has the jerk pump and nozzle holder all in one unit. We had test stands that were bought or built by the crew and fixed in place near the machine at a station or in the shop dedicated for service. Most folks...

    Air Drain Valves

That's a slightly different part but might be the same with the exception of the end adapters which can probably be used on the one in the link. Thanks for that I went ahead and ordered one it was $91.12 after ship and tax. Oddly I did search for that part on the US Haldex website and came up...

    Air Drain Valves

Maybe. I've run my M936A2 off shop air and not had an issue though. My compressor is a 60 gallon I keep between 120 and 150 and connect a 120psi regulated line to the wet tank of that truck. So it's like an "endless wet tank" and the CTIS works fine. The system does a check then targets the...
