Deuce repair after scrappers got to it.

If your going to check the compression just pull the injectors. Motor won't "hydro-lock" or start and you can look at what comes out of the cylinders and that will give you an idea where to look if leaking head gasket. You can use the starter too, less manual labor and you can see if there is...

    2nd alternator, 12V

Sorry if this is a little bit off topic, but has anyone thought of mounting a 12 volt alternator under the cab to be driven off of the intermediate drive shaft between the transmission and the transfer case. It would charge while the truck is moving and if you needed power and no movement you...

    12v headlights on 24v system - wiring

Wasn't there some way to get a different voltage (12 V) off of the 24 V system? I think I remember something about the M151 (GMCs) having some sort of dual voltage switch. Would it be possible to make some sort of system (isolated electrically) from the truck where you could draw only 12...

    M35 wiper motor questions

wiper If your going to replace it, try drilling a small hole in the wiper arm ( from top of arm to bottom, along side of the wiper motor shaft). Get a self tapping metal screw and screw it in there to lock the arm and shaft together. Doesn't cost anything to try.

    Railroad Forum

I think a forum on trains is warranted. We have three that have labored in the service of Uncle Sam at the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway. Also, some DOD boxcars and a military crane too.

    Hello from Columbus, OH!

Welcome aboard, always good to hear from someone else who likes to collect old green or tan iron. (just South of Worthington)

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

All above are good suggestions. I would add check to see that the rod the stop cable is attached to is all the way in. Mine sticks in the shut down position (good anti-theft) regardless of what it looks like in the cab and the motor won't start until you push it in. Maybe yours is stuck as...

    Low Oil Pressure

If its new to you, make sure the oil filters are in correctly. If your wondering about the internal parts of the engine (fuel dilute too) send a sample of the oil off for analysis. Its relatively cheap and you will get a good idea of the condition of the motor. When testing (or operating) a...

    Gas in oil equals rebuild

5w seems a little thin for a motor that probably was designed to run on a straight weight oil. I would consult with someone very knowledgeable on engine oils (1-800 customer service on oil can?) Also, I would check the valve to tappet clearance to make sure its not to tight and making the...

    Gas in oil equals rebuild

You know an even 70 psi is not really that horrible on an old truck. Especially since the battery, starter motor, poor connections may not be turning the engine over that fast. I would be much more concerned if it was really uneven. If it doesn't try to start on ether, I would suspect the...

    Gas in oil equals rebuild

I agree with Armytruck63, I would add check the type of oil that is suppose to go in that type of engine straight weight vs multi-weight (stick an oil pressure gauge on it too) start her and if the pressure is within specs driver her around a bit. If its OK then change the oil again as the...

I need help removing my axle seal

Check out a different type of puller if you don't want to take the other side apart.. There should be something that has a threaded bolt that you tighten (look in a catalog and then hit tool rental or auto parts store that rents tools) If I remember correctly I rented one (3 Jaw large slide...

    M152cdn saved from the scrapper

I have had good luck by putting penetrating oil in cylinders and letting it sit a couple of hours. Next tap on the tops (don't go over board) with a wooden block that covers as much of the piston as possible. Let sit an hour or so (add more penetrating oil if needed). Put the truck in gear...

    single tires to duals

rims Back in the Dark Ages I use to work for U-Haul. Saw the tire guy change many a tubeless dual tire/wheel in the parking lot with a tire hammer and tire iron. That's the type of set up I would like to have.

    single tires to duals

They are not really a true split rim, they have a lock ring. You can still do them at home, it is a lot of work though. Glen After all the horror stories of the lock ring coming off I just don't want to fool with that either. Also, if I have have to buy tires then I don't have to fool around...
