Is it a scam? Gov Planet

I had a poor experience with GP out of Chambersburg PA. ~2yrs ago I won a A427A load bank there, when I showed up provided my paperwork and ~2hrs later I still didn’t have my lot. After a lot of being ignored it turned out they accidently loaded my lot on a 3rd party freight carrier going who...

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

I also like the safety/fire aspects of the used transformer being outside. It being outside also makes NEC compliance easier. Also make sure you are getting a dry type transformer. I think most in this kva rating are dry type. The oil filled ones are a potential nightmare if it leaks.

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

I'm putting the transformer outside, which will make my install simpler for several reasons, but also largely because I have no easy way to get the 500lbs transformer into the basement. I need to make rain hoods for it so it will be nema 3r. I was looking for a 30kva delta-wye 208/120, but I...

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

No, with holidays and such I haven't done much of anything. I'm hoping to get parts ordered in the near-ish future and get things going. Once I get it done I'll post pics.

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

After the good discussion in this thread I’ve revised my design a little bit. Below is the diagram of what I’m planning on doing. Welcome any comments and suggestions. After the holidays I plan to start ordering the bits and get this install rolling before we have a serious outage and I have...

Picked up a 3P isolation transformer. Now just need to get wire, connectors, and such and wire it all up.

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

So surplus/salvage 3P equipment does not seem to be readily available in my area. All of the supply places I called either didn't carry this stuff or could only order new, and none of them had ideas about who would carry it. I was able to find one randomly on a re-selling site that is semi local...

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

I was looking at the Scame branded pin and sleeve connectors from elecdirect. They're expensive, but not $1000 per half expensive...

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

I was originally planning 5 conductors in the feeder from the set, L1, L2, L3, L0, GND. L0 was needed for the 120v circuits, and was running GND so I wouldn't need to worry about a ground rod at the gen set (pulling from service entry ground). With the transformer don't need L0 anymore, so only...

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

Yes, but my house is already built with standard 1P 240V panels. As the MEP will be backup power a 3P panel is not practical for me.

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

I'll have to call around. New 30kVA isolation transformers seem to be in the $2,700-$3,600 range, which is adding significant cost. I also like that this approach eliminates the need to run 5 conductor feeder to the gen set (only need 4 now) snd eliminates the need to bond/unbond the N-GND...

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

Um, very interesting. I hadn't thought of using a transformer to eliminate the neutral currents on the gen set side and have it be honest 3P. I like this idea. A transformer with a 416 delta primary and a 208/120 wye secondary, or an isolation one with a 208 delta primary and a 208/120 wye...

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

How do you have the 3P transformer wired in? Are you running the gen set at 416V and using the transformer to get down to 208V? I guess I don't fully understand show this will completely eliminate the imbalance in the gen set. The currents in the stator head would be reduced compared to running...

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

I'm using mine only as house backup power. I don't have any 3P equipment (but maybe this is a good excuse to get some). I went with the 804 to have some extra KWs so I really wouldn't need to worry about load shedding during an outage. Plus since we have 400A service with 2x 200A panels it was...

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

I quickly looked at my gen set, I have no wires going between the set and trailer. Strange it's not there, I was under the impression that I had a later model unit. It's a 2009, and based on paperwork that was stuffed in a cubby it went through a depot reset in 2017. It does have the 30kW switch...
