Welding to Medium Towbar? Also, Moving Sea Containers!

Oh, I just have to overcomplicate things. It's how I roll. :) Anyway, I haven't updated this thread for a while. I welded up thingies for clamping trailer jacks on both my towbar and my shelter mobilizer drawbar. I had my tow bar adapters milled out of steel, but haven't tried pulling anythign...

    Generator theory question!

Yeah, I agree that a single full-power load is unrealistic. And if the genset is having problems, maybe it can’t run with a full load while you’re trying to diagnose the problem.

    Generator theory question!

Hmm... Northern Tool has a 240V 3kW/5kW electric garage heater on sale for a hundred bucks. Maybe I could just use two of those?

    Generator theory question!

Interesting. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll so some more searching. 🍻

    Generator theory question!

I had previously built a really cheesy generator testing load bank with switchable electric water heater elements mounted through the bottom of a metal trash can, which I filled with water. It's barely up to Red Green Show quality standards, and I'd like to have something safer and more...

Welding to Medium Towbar? Also, Moving Sea Containers!

I'm thinking about welding the jack mount to a saddle made by cutting a piece of tubing lengthwise, and then clamping it onto the towbar with one or two vise-grip chain wrenches. But I'm open to suggestions if anybody has a better idea. I'm still considering how to mount the other jack to the...

Welding to Medium Towbar? Also, Moving Sea Containers!

Thank you! I had a feeling that welding to the towbar without the right level of skill might be a bad idea. I will figure out some sort of clamp-on mount for the jack instead.

Welding to Medium Towbar? Also, Moving Sea Containers!

Thank you! I hope the wheel adapters actually work... it's too soon to say whether they're brilliant or a bad idea. I'd better set up a video camera. If the container ends up on the ground with a broken-off wheel rolling down the hill, that has to be on video. They only have to move a hundred...

Welding to Medium Towbar? Also, Moving Sea Containers!

I'd like to add a trailer tongue jack to my M936A1 wrecker's medium towbar to make it easier to use without Soldier B. Here's my dog checking out my towbar as I test-fit it with a 3D-printed prototype (the yellow thing) of an adapter that I plan to have made to adapt the towbar shackles to the...

    Wrecker bed modification

Thanks for bumping this thread and posting pictures, y'all. I've also always wondered how the boom-top mounts were made. Was there ever any MWO, PS Mag article, etc. about boom-top mounting? Or was it just tribal knowledge? I also like that under-bumper mounting idea.

Oooh, you should try showing up in an empty fuel tanker!

M936A1 Transfer PTO Linkage: Oil from Bolt Hole

I'm pretty sure that my shift linkage needs a visit from the calibration hammer. The metal bar that's held on by the leaky bolt looks bent out of shape, and the PTO doesn't engage properly with the shift lever pushed back against the rear cab wall. And with the shift lever in the engaged...

M936A1 Transfer PTO Linkage: Oil from Bolt Hole

My PTO shifter still usually pops out of engagement when I shift the transmission from N to 1-5, even if I blip the transmission into 1-5 for a moment as you suggest to get the gears coasting before I shift the PTO. I suspect that my PTO shift linkage isn't fully engaging the PTO, so it pops...

M936A1 Transfer PTO Linkage: Oil from Bolt Hole

Thanks! Yes, I saw red sealant residue on the threads. Knowing that the leakage is normal, and not a sign of a crack inside the PTO housing, is a relief. The shifter lever crowding against the seat belt retractor might only be giving me headaches because it's so hard to get my PTO to engage...

M936A1 Transfer PTO Linkage: Oil from Bolt Hole

Hey there, everybody! I'm finally tinkering with my wrecker a bit after ignoring my green truck hobby for quite a long time. The transfer PTO on my M936A1 wrecker is very hard to engage. I think that the shift lever may not be actuating the linkage on the PTO far enough, so I crawled under...
