Removing that rotted foam-rubber goop is one of the few really good uses of WD-40, with the added bonus vs alcohol that it has very little solvent action on thermoplastics.

Don’t know if this is the issue, but since the display only shows five digits, low and high frequencies (example: 46.250 MHz and 146.250 MHz) will show up the same.
