Lots like brake cleaner or a solvent may have eaten up that one. I don't see melting. Chinese rubber will do this prematurely as well, as the will deliberately leave out important rubber components to make more $$. UV will eat Chinese rubber in days and colors are often lost.

I recall seeing someone drill into one of the fittings around the transmission cooling hose. I believe Ronmar also deleted or diverted the engine coolant away from the transmission cooling system. Thinking about this too. Maybe too much heat soke from engine to tranny. Can't remember his reason...
