I assume that you are looking to use the "spliced in" wire as the control wire for a relay, that when closed will carry the actual load of your accessories. For the control wire to the relay, you could use either a #14 or #16 gauge wire. Either would be more than enough to power the relay...

Unless there is some sort of huge civilian market for these, I would assume that these originally came from a legitimate source. The tooling/mold cost would not pay for itself, unless you produced and sold 1000's. I lean toward the possibility that these are parts that did not pass inspection...

I have a 4-man soft top. It is pretty rough on the outside from the standpoint of the vinyl and would definitely have to be painted. Not sure just what you are looking for. There are no tears or holes, just really weathered.

Just drill one out and check the hole size. You should be able to tell the length by the others that are in there.

That metal strip is the channel. If you took it off, you would find that you can slide the actual soft top from it.

You cold get really creative and use the grenade lever to activate the detent button. Squeeze the lever into the grenade in order to shift. That actually might not be that difficult.

The button may be problematic, but how about instead of the bayonet hilt, cut the shifter lever below the plate, and have the actual bayonet "stuck" down into the plate. It would require a bit of fab, but would look pretty cool.

I like that quite a bit. I like the ball for the latch (looks easy to operate). I would imagine the only potential issue would be repeated closings and bending the wire catch inward. That would depend on how much force is transmitted from the latch. Time will quickly tell and a different...
