    Crankcase oil completely consumed MEP004

Just removed the air filter, valve cover and intake manifold. No sign of the gummy mess in the valve cover vent can screen or intake manifold.

    Crankcase oil completely consumed MEP004

I have been running WVO for seven years in a Mercedes and a land rover diesel. 130k miles and have never seen anything remotely resembling this. 300 hours of trouble-free ops then, suddenly, a major issue with no warning.

    Crankcase oil completely consumed MEP004

What's left of the 15w-40 in the oil filter is a gummed up mess that I suspect to be WVO. Put 5 quarts oil in the motor, fired it up felt a few seconds. No knocks or strange noises.

    Crankcase oil completely consumed MEP004

I check fluids before each start. Only 1 quart oil consumed in 200 hours. Oil was fine at 5:00pm. Genset shut down at 1am. No oil.

    Crankcase oil completely consumed MEP004

Relatively low hours (400). Sat for years. Been running fine with little smoke on heated (160 degree F) WVO. Sump pumped dry, oil pressure switch shut down motor as designed. Am I looking at a ring replacement? Just happened a few hours ago, no time yet for compression test. Valves recently...

Could someone post either the specs or a cross-referenced part # for the copper washers on the injector lines of the 004a injection pump? Thanks in advance.

004 doing the job! Thanks to sewerzuk!

My 004 project is complete, or at least it is complete to the extent that any project is ever really complete! Single phase electric, powering the entire all-electric 2,000sf home, including one 3.0 ton and two 2.5 ton heat pumps, on free waste vegetable oil...yep, free! Proud to say that for...

Mep 004a on pad or not?

I have an 004 secured in a 10x14 building. 150 feet will create "line loss", so a large service cable will be needed. I had no reason for mobility for my genset, nor did I have a trailer for mine, so permanent mounting was a no-brainer. Unless you have an ASK kit, placing it far from your house...

How have you civilized your MEP Generators?

There was no ASK kit on this unit. Doors were beat up and, with extremely tight setback limitations, my shed was barely wide enough inside to allow for easy access for door openings with my WVO filtration system on one side.

Not the best. Will post more.

How have you civilized your MEP Generators?

I built a wood frame shed around my mep004. Poured a footer and built a block foundation under the planned location for the genset's skids. 2x12 floor joists, 12" centers. Overkill? Sure. Increased expense versus increased worry, I'll take the minimal expense. Shed is only 10x14. I removed the...

    Making Biodiesel

Check state laws. Not all states require you to pay a fuel tax on alternative fuel sources. I have been running wvo in my vehicles for 7 years. I use a two-tank system, start up on diesel and switch to wvo once the engine coolant reaches 150. Run the wvo through a heat exchanger and ride the...

    Sound suppression mep004

After further research, I built an enclosure between the radiator end and the fiberglass louvered opening and used homasote board to create diagonal baffles inside. TripleJim's concept of 90 degree angles, requiring sound to "bounce", worked very well for the circulation air exhaust. A Dodge...
