Same here. 1/4" galvanized hardware cloth. Self tappers with washers for the big bottom opening. Check around in there before you drive the screws. I had a fuel line in the area that shouldn't have been.
Battery holes I placed the mesh inside under the trays, and the battery holds it down.
All the others I did folded hems on the mesh to stiffen them up, and then simply held them on with phone wire to the big grills. (fine, insulated, solid copper. no worry about UV degredation)

I used 1/8 stainless mesh to help keep insects (mud dauber wasps, in particular) out, and used stainless safety wire to attach the screens. After installation, I painted the side vents in matching colors. I use 1/8" around here a lot to reduce the impact of flying embers in during wildfires. FWIW: I keep the radiator vent covered with a rodent resistant flap, made from a heavy trunk liner off an older vehicle, mainly just to keep dust and leaves out. (And yes, if someone were to start the generator without removing it, it hovers off in a few seconds, I checked.)

All the best,

I’ve found some #8 mesh stainless screen that I’m gonna use. The hole size is 2.5 mm or a little smaller than 1/8”. I like the idea of the cover on the radiator vent with something solid. I’ve got some a**hole squirrels at my of grid cabin and I’m sure they would sit on top of that and cut nuts into 3/32” pieces so it’ll fall through the screen. Haha.
Thanks.
