I realized yesterday that I seated the seal on the back of the rotor too far down. Should have been flush. It still has plenty of clearance from the bearing so I'm going to live with it for now, but I'm kicking myself after getting everything else right.

I've done that many times. I just pop it out and tap it in flush.

It shouldn't make any difference as long as the seal is still riding on the seal surface of the spindle, which I can pretty much guarantee you it is .
Often times this can give the seal a new surface to ride on anyway instead of the same spot its been riding on for the last 40 years, so it's a blessing in disguise .
