Hello Everyone,
I've been working on a 1/35th scale M54A1(?) model of "The Bounty Hunter" gun truck for my Grandfather, who served in the 567th Transportation Co. in Vietnam. He was stationed next to the 444th and had some time on this truck. Below is a photo of him.
For some background on the project, I've been converting an M54A2C kit into an M54A1, which I think this truck is. Some of the major details have been converting the fold-down sides into fixed sides and deleting the exhaust stack.
Through its lifetime, this truck has gone through a few modifications. It started off with an M66 Turret ring(?), which was later deleted in favor of a simple M-60 gun mount.
The mirrors also went through a few changes. I guess things break in a combat zone! Here's some photos of the iteration my Grandfather was on. Note the small mirrors.
Here's some of my current progress. Doing a lot of it in 3D with 3D printed resin parts.
However, I'm stuck on a few details.
1. The M66 mount was later removed, but it looks like the bracket was left attached. Is that what this is? Does anyone happen to have a photo of how this M66 bracket looks? Couldn't find a TM that illustrated it.
2. Anyone know how the add-on armor plates were mounted to the doors? I'm also not quite sure how they mounted the front window armor panel, which is hinged. Probably field modified.
Interesting note, the second pic above is one of the last known of The Bounty Hunter before it was decommissioned. Looks like it now has a multi-fuel style stack.
3. Lastly, I'm not quite sure what mirrors these are from and how they are mounted to the truck. Looks like M35 mirrors?
I appreciate any help that can be given. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right!
Working on this project and using this forum for references has tempted me to purchase a 2.5 or 5 ton in the near future. So I'm sure in no time I'll be posting directly related content!
