M925A2 air dryer issue

Hello all,

I have an M925A2 that I've slowly been working on, and recently developed a problem and I'm hoping for some easy guidance.

Long story short...I was giving it a run just to keep everything in good working shape and right as I was getting ready to shut it down I noticed I had a low air pressure warning. I pulled it back into the bay and shut it down so I could figure out what's going on.

If I restart it now I get very little air pressure in the main tank and basically none in the secondary. I crawled around to see if I can spot what's going on and noticed air coming out of bottom of the air dryer...I'm not sure if that's the only problem or not, but it's where I have to start.

I haven't done any maintenance on the air dryer and I'm new to dealing with them...I was told by the previous owner that he had just serviced it recently at the time, but that was awhile ago.

Anyways...I'll attach a picture and a link to it on video if anyone can offer guidance on what I need to get this sorted out.

As always - thank you.

Here is a link to a video clip of it running.

For now- the purge vlv comes apart with just a few snap rings, in place. A cleaning will get you thru to getting a new unit. When it blows on the road- pull over and bump with something small and blunt, like a small nut driver.

And sometimes you can put your hand (palm) over the exit on the dryer and it may reseat itself. Definitely NOT the real fix, but it may close the valve enough for you to build air...

Just leave the wet tank open so that the system won't purge and blow off is the only real way to deal with it on the road . Disadvantage is more compressor moisture and it's cold

Hey...you guys are good.

Yeah...it's the purge valve that sticks - kinda glad that's all it was. I pushed something up in there before starting it and building any air pressure and could feel it reseat. Started the truck and built pressure...things worked as they should until the valve did the same thing again. (Kinda expected that from what you all said.)

I'll either get a rebuild kit for it or just replace the dryer with a newer/better one. I just wanted to say thank you for the thoughts and guidance.

Cool. For me- answer was new, military surplus one. Only bit of work with basic mount differences. You may "buy some time" if you pop out blow vlv, clean and lightly lube, as said above. No rebuild kit needed. Civilian (little!) ones an option. Some plumbing and 24V heater issues, maybe.
