It registers just like any civilian vehicle. If it’s over 14k GVW and diesel you have to register it with the Air Resource Board. There are certain programs in CARB you can register these old rigs with. Mine is under low use. Meaning I can’t go over 1k miles a year.

A single axle other than the steer will be allowed 20k if tires permit ! A steer axle is allowed on a big truck/bus is allowed 12k unless you were running wide flotation tires like cement/dump trucks if the tire is rated some states like mich use to allow 18k on steer with the flotation tires

back when i was running my gravel pit / topsoil operation i ran into a few who thought their total rear axle rating meant they could put that amount in the bed :ROFLMAO:
