MEP-803A Oil Pressure

I have notice that after the genset warms up to operating temp. the oil pressure goes for 40 psi to 20-22 psi. I am running Rotella 15w-40 engine oil and engine oil is up to the fill mark on dipstick. I understand it will drop in pressure if engine is brought down to idle but I would think it would stay a 35-40psi the whole time engine is running. Is this a sign that the oil pump is on the way out?

You should note an oil pressure drop as the viscosity lessens under normal operating temperature. The LOP switch trips at 15+/-3 PSI. As this engine has a mechanical oil pump, if the engines running... the oil is flowing.

If your Rotella is semi-syn, realize this engine is spec'd to run regular conventional... so I would expect a lower running PSI with better, more modern oil.

I use conventional Rotella in all my diesel engines.

If you are concerned, many (myself included) have added a tee and a mechanical oil pressure gauge right behind the LOP switch. Its a good bit of redundancy to the factory gauge.
