30KW MEP 1060

I’ve used this website for answers in the past and I can’t find anything related to the issue I’m having. I’ve got a 30kw generator (MEP 1060) in the motor pool that had some bad fuel put in it by another soldier in my section. We drained the bad fuel out, installed new fuel filters, a new fuel water separator. I’ve cracked all the fuel lines and I’m getting clean fuel to the engine but today I took off the fuel sender on top of the fuel tank and discovered it was covered in sediment. Flushed it, reinstalled and the gen kept giving me a fail to start error. It ran perfectly fine before and after all that I’ve tried I’ve reached a point to where I’m stumped. Also if anyone knows the location of the speed sensor on these bad boys I would love to know. I’ve looked time and time again and cannot locate it. Usually it’s near the oil pressure sensor on the 5kw and 15kw but it’s not in the same location on the 30kw

could you please elaborate “bad fuel”?

what kind of bad fuel? Hot chocolate? 25 Liter of Heineken? 105 octane unleaded racing fuel?

it was some fuel that had some dirt and metal shavings in it. Drained off of an 88

This will have to wait until MSgt. Guy ( @Guyfang ) gets here and takes a look at this mess

more than likely you have plugged injectors if the fuel was as bad as you have described. Are you getting any fuel from the return as you crank it over?

If its not a significant amount, then I don't think its a plugged up fuel system problem. was the set run any amount of time AFTER the bad fuel was added?) put in it by another soldier in my section. We drained the bad fuel out, (Did you drain the tank compleatly? I mean every drop? Or just most of it?) installed new fuel filters, a new fuel water separator. Or Fuel Tank Level to the meter?) on top of the fuel tank and discovered it was covered in sediment. Flushed it, reinstalled and the gen kept giving me a fail to start error. (I would say your problem is what ever you did to the fuel level sensor.I would take it back out, and look at it. It could be you put it back in wrong, and the float is touching something. It holds the float in the no fuel/low fuel position and that keeps you from starting ) It ran perfectly fine before and after all that I’ve tried I’ve reached a point to where I’m stumped. Also if anyone knows the location of the speed sensor, (Why would the MPU have anything to do with the problem? Unless someone else Knob Dicked, why would it now all the sudden be out of adjustment?) it on these bad boys I would love to know. I’ve looked time and time again and cannot locate it. update, purged the main fuel lines, bled them to get air out, checked injectors, all good. Starting to get a sputter out of it but it’s still not starting up.

The air is difficult to get out of the lines between IP and Injectors. Crack line on injector and crank, when fuel comes out immediatly close connection.
Otherwise you have to keep cranking for several minutes. Other members may have a better solution, I am an Electrical Engineer and have done this only once or twice on a Diesel Engine.

Please define "sputter". Do you mean a little fuel is starting to come out of the injector line? Or that the engine is trying to start, maybe hits a compression stroke every now and then?
